Belz Antwerp Instructs Chassidim Not to Accept Packages

elal.jpgThe Belz Machzikei Hadas Beis Din in Antwerp on Friday released a p’sak din prohibiting accepting packages from people following a number of cases in which the packages served the interests of drug dealers. The p’sak states that such actions and money laundering are against the law of the land and therefore, a violation of Torah Law as well.

The notice goes on to state that chassidim are instructed not to take any parcel, even from the distinguished members of the community, without being absolutely certain of the contents of the parcel, the Ldaat.net report states.

The p’sak also relates to taking large sums of money, instructing people against doing so, and especially, not to transport money from country to country, or to deposit large checks into one’s bank account.

The p’sak adds that the incidents are few in number, but nevertheless, due to recent cases, the beis din is compelled to relate to the current realities, reminding people of the innocent frum Israeli yeshiva bochrim sitting in jail in Japan for a number of months, having fallen prey to confidence artists who took advantage of the students good will and willingness to be of assistance.

  1. Machzikei Hadath is the general Kehilla in Antwerp representing almost all frum yidden incl Belz, litvish, yeshivish, satmar, bobov, viznitz, ger, modern, etc etc you name it……………… Come on do your research a bit better it has nothing to do with belz..

  2. If u had a little D.E. training with ur torah u woudent be so dumb! Only a naive tipush does these things, no real thinking yid, who has real smart, real erlicha parents would enven fall for such stupidity. FAULTY CHINUCH HATORAH.

  3. joli
i dont think you read well it doesent say the the machzike beth din made the statement it says the BELZ MACHZIKE HADAS beth din made the statement

  4. #3: Belz doesn’t have it’s own beis din in Antwerp.

Indeed, Machzikei HaDas is the name of the general chareidi kehilla there. Its previous Gavad was the current Gavad of the Edah, Rav Yitzchok Tuvio Weiss shlita.

It includes, as #1 said, all kehillos of Antwerp, from Pshevorsk to Ger and from Satmar to Sanz-Zmigrod.

By the way, the modern are not part of it; they have a separate kehilla called Shomrei HaDas, which is a lot smaller than Machzikei HaDas, but also quite well known. Generally they do cooperate quite well, but they both grant hechsherim (with the kannoim – ie, most chassidim there, like Pshevorsk and Satmar – not relying on the Shomrei HaDas hechsher).

  5. to yoily and breslever, i think you should do some research before you leave your comment, but belz in antwerp used to be part of machzikei hadaas and once after a disagreement with m”h they went to shomrei hadaas! and thats where they are today!

  6. Just to be pedantic, the previous Gaavad was Harav Rubinstein, who was the succesor to HaRav Chaim Kreiswirth. Rav Tovia Weiss was a Dayan on the Beis Din.

  7. The previous Gavad was Reb Alter Rubinstein and before him it was Reb Chaim Kreiswirth Ztz’l (Reb Tuvia Weiss was one of the Dayanim).

  8. The point of this post is not WHO said what. The point is that we can’t trust each other anymore because we take advantage of our friends and pervert their trust. But instead of focusing on that you worry about who said it. Y’all must be from Fakewood.

  9. MISC1500, true the point is WHAT was said, but I hope you’re speaking for yourself when you say “we take advantage of our friends and pervert their trust”.

  10. This place is becoming so unreliable. As I wrote before MH isn’t from Belz but you don’t have the guts to change. Even worse please call the MH Kehilla and and ask them if they ever published such a note. I wrote before and you couldn’t even publish it because you are ashamed of your mistake. Their number is +323-2320021. Please apologize when you publish things without verifying if it’s authentic as the Beis Din is very angry that people publish things in their name………

    Editors Note:

#1- If you have a direct message for the editors of YWN, kindly submit it as a respectful email, not as a nasty comment.

#2- We do not have to apologize for a faulty Ladaat.net report (IF you believe that the report is false).

#3- We are in possession of a letter signed by the Bais Din.

  11. To cast doubts about the motivation of a beis din is a very serious matter, as we all know. I will
not not try to bring down what the sforim etc. say. Especially during these Nine Days. Let’s keep that in mind. That is the ikor now.
