  1. Can someone that perhaps knew him a bit write a few words about him? I often find many of the hespedim, at least what I can find online, very bland – ” …. he was a tremendous baki, iluy, talmid chacham … a big anav … a baal chesed … cared about each and every one of his talmidim …” They end up all sounding roughly the same. It would be nice if someone could write up some of his main contributions to learning, or psak, or something else special and inspiring about him that someone didn’t just copy and paste from a different hesped. How will people remember him in 50 years? Will they remember him in 50 years? Something more substantive. Thank you.

  2. @ M
    1. I listened here on the livestream and you definitely heard not the conventional hesped. In fact I got a taste of Chaim Berlin philosophy which I wasn’t aware of.
    2. I want to share one (small) episode although I didn’t know him at all. My Rov who was a chassididhe Rov (not terribly famous) once showed up at a Chasunah for the Tzad Hakallah. He walked in and joined a ring that was dancing. I guess it must have been obvious that he’s searching for someone (the kallahs father). R Aron ZL who was much older stepped out of the circle took the Rov by the arm and walked him to the other side of the hall to the “Kallah’s side ring”.

  3. He was especially helpful to baalei teshuva, and welcomed graduates of yeshivas like ohr somayach. He genuinely enjoyed the role of elder statesman who greeted day school students, yeshiva ketana people. He often remembered old acquaintances.
Felt strong loyalty to talmidim and expected same in return.
I think he always considered himself fulfilling a duty to keep his Rebbe’s yeshiva running in the same way it had been intended.

  4. I guess he instructed only family to maspid.

I’m taken away by with one of the SILs said: He would take time to learn with young Russian baaile teshuvas and he got the SAME SIMCHA of teaching them a basic Chumash Rashi as teaching a deep Rabi Akiva Eiger in Gemara shiur iyun.

Someone who truly cares for Torah, not only teaches it to all, but equally derives happiness to review ANY part of it no matter how basic.

  5. A true Gem of a Gadol.
I’m not exactly a huge fan of Chaim Berlin style, but the RY was a unique Gadol in middos as well.
I saw him, despite his advanced age, weakness and busy schedule,
sit by a Shiva, about an hr, due to one of the avelim was meshamesh him once.
A true lesson in Hakoras haTov..
