  1. Whats the big news that warrants constant updates? Cnn, and all other news outlets are not even reporting this story. Big deal, he got into an accident and was taken to hospital. I am sure there are more news worthy topics to report on.

  2. All recent NJ Gov’s have been friendly to Yidden. Friends don’t let friends vote democrat.

    Huh?

    Jim Florio – Democrat
    Christine Whitman – Republican
    Jim McGreevy – Democrat
    Jon Corzine – Democrat

If the Mayor of New York, Mr. Bloomberg were in an accidnet I am sure YW would give him the same press, why isnt the Goversnor of New Jersey worthy of the same??

Besides if he is so Jew Friendly, as aprevious commentator mentioned, whyshouldnt everyone be aware so that they can keep him in mind when davening?? A righteous Gentile deserves our prayers. Dont you think???

  4. to mikedrezz I checked every NEWS outlet EVERYONE has the story he is in critical condition broken foot ribs tramua to the chest he is in bad shape

  5. Nameless,

I just want to take issue with your use of the term righteous Gentile. It’s thrown about freely, and I don’t think that it matches with Chazal as much as it does with, l’havdil, our far more “free thinking” brethren.

If he hasn’t been m’kabel upon himself 7 mitzvos b’nei Noach is he a righteous Gentile? I haven’t learned this b’iyun; my question is truly a question. What I have learned tells me that he’s just a goy who we have hakaras hatov towards for helping to benefit us. That’s wonderful! But to be placed amongst the righteous when it’s truly for his benefit? More votes. Praise. Kavod. Feels good.

Forgive the skeptic inside of me, but I guess I gotta wonder how sincere our tefillas are when it just means rolling another name off of our tongue. Tefilla is not magic which works through incantation and formulas. It’s avodah sh’b’laiv. I’m not convinced that he should be too deep inside of the Jewish heart. Hey, at least I’m admitting that this is the skeptic inside. It seems to me that when we davin for cholim, there should be some pain felt for the choleh and for his/her family/friends. No?

  6. corzine has done more for lakewood than any of the previous governors – especially when it comes to medical insurance and needs of special children

  7. mikedrezz:

The reason that CNN and everyone else was not reporting it, was that they DID NOT KNOW ABOUT IT.

Yeshivaworld had this story at 6:09PM, and the media picked up on this at 7:15PM.

  8. so all of you love this guy and call him friend of the jews because you’re all taking government programs but at the same time you curse democrats?

  9. Yoshi
You have a point! But dont forget this is a public site and its read by people of all denominations. I try to refrain from using words like ‘goy’, which might be offensive to some but I hear what you are saying.

  10. 1. Righteous Gentile should not be reserved exclusively for people who observe the Noahide laws. We label Oskar Schindler a righteous gentile because he saved hundreds of Jews from their deaths. Was he a righteous man man? Yes, we call him just for that reason.

    2. The jews of New Jersy consistently owe hakars hatov to the recent governors, especially the democrats. When it comes to the specific domestic needs of the jewish communities, the democrats are just better, it is that simple.

    3. It is sad, that if not for the shreklach of Don Imus, Gov. Corzine would not have even been in the accident. He wasd on his way to the meeting with the radio mamzer and the rutgers women basketball team.

  11. One other thing, all the networks on tv and radio had the news right away. Sometimes it takes a few dozen minutes to update the websites. the media had the story right away and cut into programming to report it. (even before it was up on the yeshivishe world blog)

  12. Der Yid,

I’m not looking for a fight, but who is the “we” of calling Oskar Schindler righteous? Did he do massive amounts of righteousness? Undoubtedly! What I question (and it really is a question – not a pompous way of stating my conclusion) is whether or not that is “our” way of designation a righteous gentile.

Mother Teresa did massive amounts of good deeds. Would she have saved Jews if she had the chance? I would guess so. Did she believe in a man who died for her sins who she happened to also be married to? Yep.

My seforim are not in my office (nebuch), but I’m pretty sure that according to the Rambam, to be amongst the Chasiday Umos HaOlam, you have to be m’kabel that the Torah is from Sinai and that the Yidden are STILL the holders of this Torah and that you are now consciously living according to zayin mitzvos b’nei Noach.

If a man like Schindler saves Jewish lives but eats aiver min hachai is he still righteous? (I do not mean to imply that he ate aiver min hachai! The question is fascinating to me.)

  13. Town Crier,

I’m asking about both. Yes, I agree with you. Look at my first post on this article. How does one get this accolade?

I was assuming that “Righteous Gentile” is our English rendition (poor as it may be) of Chasidei Umos Haolam.

Whatever the case, one point that I’m to make/ask is that perhaps we throw it around a bit too casually. Because we like them, are they righteous?
