Wishing to encourage the chareidi sector to have children immunized in the nationwide polio oral booster vaccine campaign, Ministry of Health officials visited with Gedolei Yisrael Shlita. The campaign is intended for all children from the age of two-months to nine-years, hoping to give the children additional immunization against the illness, which has been found in sewage systems in the north, center and south of the country.
Hoping to give an added push to chareidi parents, the director-general and other Ministry of Health officials visited Bnei Brak to meet with HaGaon HaRav Aaron Yehuda Leib Shteinman Shlita and HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita.
The officials explain that while there is a miniscule risk to children receiving the vaccine, the benefits far outweigh the risk factor and therefore, all children should be vaccinated.
The visit followed an appeal from Health Minister Yael German to Bnei Brak Mayor Rav Avraham Rubinstein. The minister wanted to know how Gedolei Yisrael feel regarding the vaccination program. Her inquiry was followed up by the visit with Director-General Prof. Roni Gamzu heading the senior delegation.
Rav Shteinman is quoted as saying that the doctors must be permitted to carry out their shlichus of healing and preventing illness, nodding affirmatively when asked if the children should be vaccinated.
Rav Kanievsky listened attentively and while he was less specific in his words regarding a parents’ responsibility to vaccinate the children he did give the guests a bracha, stating “ברכה והצלחה” .

All right how far will these guys go? I haven’t seen any letters or signatures from these gedolim telling parents to vaccinate, only from the merchants mouth repeating what seemingly he went to get. “Rav Shteinman is quoted as saying that the doctors must be permitted to carry out their shlichus of healing and preventing illness, nodding affirmatively when asked if the children should be vaccinated.” Why is he saying they must be “permitted to carry out their shlichus of healing”? Is anyone preventing them? What did they ask him that led to such a answer? I have a letter from Rav Dunner who quotes R Chaim Kanievsky saying that that one cannot stop unvaccinated children from attending school. And that if there are parents of vaccinated children who are scared that their children might become ill because of these children who are not vaccinated, then they should keep their vaccinated children at home. And I heard that R Shtienman is not so for immunizations either. So what is going on? The bottom line is that these officials go to the gedolim tell them what they want and then use them how they want. Can someone find out what was asked of the gedolim and what they answered? I am trying my own investigation, but maybe one of the readers has better info. And sayning ברכה והצלחה does not necessarily mean everyone should get vaccinated. You need to know in what context it was said. And I don’t have much trust in these officials. Besides there are rabbonim who appose vaccination policies, so this shouldn’t close the door of discussion like these officials want, “compliance”, and no discussion, just comply. “We know best”.

We are hearing about numerous religious Schools that are throwing out precious children if they are not 100% vaccinated.
They will not administer registration cards this year if they are missing a Chickenpox or Diareah Shot.
This is total nonsence! There are many parents who do want to immunize for numerous reasons inc. religious grounds.
The NYC Public schools accepts “Religious exempt forms” if its presented to the school. Obviously, The city doesnt have issues if a non-vaccinated child is in class with vaccinated childeren. Also, If they are all vaccinated whats gona hapoen to the othets anyways? They are vaccinated!
