Letitia James Wins Race For NYC Public Advocate

voteCity Councilmember Letitia James has been elected as New York City’s public advocate.

The public advocate works to make sure residents are best served by city government. Current officeholder Bill de Blasio ran successfully for mayor.

James, a Democrat from Brooklyn, faced a crowded primary field in September. She and state Sen. Daniel Squadron took the top two spots, and she defeated him in a runoff election in October.

She defeated a handful of other minor party candidates in the general election, which was expected in a city where Democrats far outnumber all other political registrations. There was no Republican opponent.
