A few days after Shas leader Aryeh Deri signed an agreement with the Ministry of Education to include secular studies in its Mayan Chinuch educational network the final paperwork was signed on Tuesday 6 Shevat by Finance Minister Yair Lapid. Lapid hailed the agreement as “historic”, praising Shas’ decision to accept the Education Ministry’s curriculum in its schools. “Tens of thousands of chareidi children will now learn math, English and science for the first time” Lapid stated.
He added that by accepting the secular studies he is confident the students in this system will have a fair chance at employment and supporting their families and this is ultimately the government’s goal.
