Police believe that Menachem Stark was killed over a single $20,000 debt to a contractor, despite owing tens of millions of dollars to different creditors, the NY Daily News is reporting.

The contractor has reportedly been linked to the white Dodge van that was used in Stark’s abduction and murder, as well as a cell phone that police found attached to the bottom of Stark’s vehicle.

Detectives believe the abduction might have been carried out to scare Stark into paying the debt, and that his death by suffocation might have been accidental.
