Chaim Biton, 35, has been appointed as the new director-general of the Shas party after Nati Lasri stepped down.

YWN-ISRAEL reported that Lasri claims to have been pushed out by party leader Aryeh Deri while the latter told the press Lasri is leaving as a result of mutual decision.

Biton told the media that he views his first assignment to improve contact between Shas officials and voters.
