CIA Helped Extract Mossad Agents During “One of the Most Significant Operations Ever”

Former CIA Director Mike Pompeo reveals in his new book, Never Give an Inch, that Mossad agents in immediate peril were rescued by CIA agents at the personal request of then-Mossad Director Yossi Cohen.

Pompeo said the story happened during his term as head of the spy agency, immediately leading many to assume he was referring to the February 2018 “heist of the century,” when Mossad seized Iran’s secret nuclear archive from under its nose. However, Israeli intelligence sources denied that the CIA was at all involved in that operation.

Pompeo says the CIA’s help came during “one of the most significant clandestine operations ever,” though it isn’t known what operation that could be if it wasn’t the heist of Iran’s nuclear secrets.

“The call from Yossi Cohen, the head of the Mossad, arrived shortly after I had stepped off a plane in a European capital,” Pompeo writes. “I turned around and went back onboard, where we had communications equipment suitable for a classified conversation with the leader of Israel’s intelligence agency.”

“The voice on the other end was calm but serious,” Pompeo continues. “‘Mike, we just had a team complete a very important mission, and now I’m having a bit of trouble extracting some of them. Can I get your help?'”

“Whenever Yossi called, I took it. He did the same for me… I was there to help our friends, no questions asked, no matter the risks. My people swung into action across the world. We connected with his team, and within twenty-four hours we had guided them to safe houses. Within the next two days, they were back in their home countries without the world ever knowing that one of the most significant clandestine operations ever conducted was now complete.”

Though Israeli officials insist that it wasn’t the 2018 heist of the Iranian nuclear archives, the Jerusalem Post notes that everything about the story lines up with what Pompeo says, and moreover, Yossi Cohen has previously stated that while all the Mossad agents involved in that operation eventually escaped, some were nearly caught by Iranian security services.

  1. I have no reason to doubt Pompeo’s story, but I am sure he is telling this story at this time to attract pro-Israel American donors for a possible run for president.

  2. The hilarity of imagining two individuals in charge of some of the most secretive and complex organizations in the world having a phone conversation reminiscent of high school teens calling each other up to ask for a favor.
“Hey, uhh Mike? Yeahhh this is Yossi. You know, Yossi Cohen. Head of the Mossad…yeah, I need a favor, can you send over some of your guys to help my guys out?”
“Sure! They’ll hop on right over, happen to be in the area, in fact…”

    Yeah, this story is nonsensical.
