Chief Rabbi David Lau Shlita has sent a message to Pope Francis, with whom he met during the pope’s recent visit to Yerushalayim. Rabbi Lau is calling upon the leader of the world’s Roman Catholic community to become involved in efforts towards the release of the three teenagers abducted by terrorists in Gush Etzion last week. The hostages, 16-year-old Naftali Frenkel, 16-year-old Gilad Shaar and 19-year-old Eyal Yifrach, are believed to be held by terrorists in the PA (Palestinian Authority) area of Hebron or the Southern Hebron Hills.
The rav made his appeal to the pontiff on motzei Shabbos. “You were here two weeks ago and we called on both nations to seek peace. I would expect your involvement and a call to the heads of the PA (Palestinian Authority) to act immediately towards the release of the Jewish captives” Rav Lau stated.
In a related matter, the atzeres tefilla at the Kosel that was scheduled for 17:00 on Sunday 17 Sivan has been pushed to 19:00. Many prominent rabbonim shlita, including the chief rabbis are expected to be in attendance.
