lauChief Rabbi David Lau Shlita has sent a message to Pope Francis, with whom he met during the pope’s recent visit to Yerushalayim. Rabbi Lau is calling upon the leader of the world’s Roman Catholic community to become involved in efforts towards the release of the three teenagers abducted by terrorists in Gush Etzion last week. The hostages, 16-year-old Naftali Frenkel, 16-year-old Gilad Shaar and 19-year-old Eyal Yifrach, are believed to be held by terrorists in the PA (Palestinian Authority) area of Hebron or the Southern Hebron Hills.

The rav made his appeal to the pontiff on motzei Shabbos. “You were here two weeks ago and we called on both nations to seek peace. I would expect your involvement and a call to the heads of the PA (Palestinian Authority) to act immediately towards the release of the Jewish captives” Rav Lau stated.

In a related matter, the atzeres tefilla at the Kosel that was scheduled for 17:00 on Sunday 17 Sivan has been pushed to 19:00. Many prominent rabbonim shlita, including the chief rabbis are expected to be in attendance.

  1. I believe he’s just making a point to the pope who was in Israel stressing that we should make peace with the PA, he is making the point of how interested the Palestinians are in peace…

  2. Reply to #1:

What makes you think he isnt Davening….There is something called Hishtadlus…what a silly comment on your part….You can apply that to anything…why go to a doctor just ask HKBH??!!!?? Re-think your comment please

  3. #3 ygr – Please – in this tragic time for klal Yisroel, do not use comments such as “what a silly comment on your part…..” If you don’t agree with what #1 said, I really believe there’s a better way of getting your point across. Tragedies like this are supposed to teach us to be b’achdus. We can see this by all the tefila groups that have gathered. All types of Yidden davening together – Chassidish, Litvish, Sfardi, MO, not frum, etc. It shouldn’t take a tragedy for us to stick together. Hashem is sending us message after message. KLAL YISROEL – LET’S FINALLY TAKE THE MESSAGES TO HEART!
May we hear good news very very soon!

  4. If it really IS Hamas, it is unlikely that Pope Francis would be of any help. Hamas hates Christians as much as they hate us.
