MK Calls on AG Weinstein to Disqualify Coalition Agreement

bibeMK (Labor) Stav Shafir is calling on Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein to disqualify the coalition agreement signed between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Bayit Yehudi.

Her reaching out to the attorney general is based on an earlier ruling by Weinstein which was also in response to her challenge against funding allocated by the Knesset Finance Committee via Bayit Yehudi. Shafir’s decision to turn to the attorney general in 2014 prevented the transfer of huge sums to Bayit Yehudi affiliated yishuvim and dati leumi mosdos.

Based on Weinstein’s ruling at the time, that money cannot be allocated to satisfy a party’s private agenda, she hopes to disqualify the agreement signed with Bayit Yehudi and Likud which includes a questionable 640 million NIS allocation to the party.

She also points out that Deputy AG Dina Zilber has called to halt funding for the World Zionist Organization Settlement Division, which Shafir insists is receiving funding as per the coalition agreement with Bayit Yehudi. She explains that allocations are channeled to the Settlement Division and from there money is allocated for many private interest projects in contradiction to the law.
