WebYeshiva.org’s Online Sofer Stam Program to Relaunch

After a successful first run the WebYeshiva.org first of its kind online Sofer Stam Certification Course will be relaunching again on Sunday, May 8, 2016.

As part of WebYeshiva.org’s Halacha Mastery Program, the Sofer Stam Certification Course provides practical training in the halacha and art of safrut to students through state-of-the-art live video conferencing technology and one-on-one tutoring.

Each 90-minute class is a live, fully interactive session where students listen to the instructor and ask questions, chat, view source sheets, and share writing samples -all in real time.

The class, which can also be viewed through the class archives when a student is absent, is given by Machon Melechet Shamayim founder and director, Master Sofer, Rav Eliezer Adam. Broadcast from his home in Ramat Beit Shemesh through WebYeshiva.org, Rav Adam has been teaching safrut in Israel for over twenty years.

Students who take this course either to learn safrut as a hobby or with the intention of making a living as a sofer stam will gain the necessary skills and certification to write holy items such as mezuzot, megillot, tefillin and more. Following completion of all the course materials and the course test students will be certified as a sofer stam.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Rav Adam’s course in Safrus, his explanations have helped me tremendously in understanding siman 32 of Hilchos Tefillin,” said Rav Mendel Bogomilsky of Short Hills, New Jersey, a participant in the first class.

“Rav Adam covers extensively both the practical aspects of how to prepare a ‘professional’ kulmus and the finer points and tips of how to actually write the letters, as well as the necessary halochot of mukaf gvil, chok tochos etc,” Rav Bogomilsky said.

Mark Goldstein, another student of the first class, had actively sought a safrut certification program for three years until he came upon WebYeshiva.org.

“My searches quickly led me to the Machon Melechet Shamayim website in Israel, one of the preeminent centers for the study of Safrus, and its founder Rav Eliezer Adam. Although I could access a vast array of written and video materials freely, there were no fully interactive online courses,” Goldstein said adding WebYeshiva.org made that possible.

The basis for this novel online approach to Torah learning stems from WebYeshiva.org’s founder and Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Brovender’s innovative method and efforts to bring Torah study programs to Jews across the world.

Launched in 2007 WebYeshiva.org was the first fully interactive online Torah study program and caters to students of all levels and backgrounds.

The next WebYeshiva.org Safrut Certificatioin course will be held 6pm Israel time starting Sunday, May 8th 2016 through July 17th. Prospective students can fill out an application here.
