Holocaust Museum Expresses Concern on Syrian Refugee Crisis

refThe U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is expressing concern about the United States’ response to the global refugee crisis, citing the consequences to millions of Jews who were unable to flee Nazism.

The museum said in a statement Tuesday that in the 1930s and 1940s, the United States and many other countries refused to admit Jewish refugees from Nazism.

The statement says anti-Semitic attitudes and national security fears were among the reasons for turning away Jewish refugees.

The museum says there are legitimate refugees fleeing Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime and genocidal acts by the Islamic State group.

The museum’s statement comes after President Donald Trump’s immigration order temporarily suspending all immigration for citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries. Its statement urged that U.S. policy should address security concerns while protecting legitimate refugees.

  1. Here is the reality. The main problem with the immigration policy in WWII is exactly that it was anti-Jewish. Logic dictates (and also the later Geneva Convention on Refugees 1951) that the ones most in danger be given priority. Thus for objective reasons Jews should have been priority (instead of bottom of the heap).

With today’s Syria, as example, there are no Jews to speak of. So who are the top endangered targets in Syria? Clearly, ISIS is targeting Christians over anyone else available to them. So the same logic (and Geneva Convention) dictates that Christians of Syria should have priority over any one else in Syria.

The statistics as of 2011 show that the Christian population of Syria was then around 10%. So how come under Obama the Christian refugee immigration from Syria was around the 1% to 1.5% of the total Syrian refugees admitted into the U.S.?

This is one of the kinds of problem and attitude that Trump is trying to fix (though I agree there is probably a better way, but he is new at this).

  2. You just knew they were going to hop on the bandwagon soon, knock-kneed, very sweaty , and all. Prepare for many rabbis’ “speeches” during the next few Shabbases to do the same. Justice, Jewish values ,Hillel Hazakan,, blah blah. Guaranteed some of them will show up here.
You’re all losing credibility by lying and falsifying what President Trump actually said for months finally did.
Hey Museum; you know that many Muslims themselves were accomplices of the Nazis, you know that the immigrants here may target Jews, but you’re all so nauseatingly kissy-kissy.
Can we Jews start worrying about ourselves first and tikun olam and massaging the olam-people second?
Maybe we should learn from Afro-Americans, Hispanics and Muslims themselves.
I.E.—– Defend and respect your own kind first. They all do that, and you know why? Because they’re normal.
Can we say the same for ourselves?
It’s not about compassion which we American Jews have, it’s about a few months of common sense.

Holocaust Museum: You don’t want people lying about the Shoah, don’t lie about facts.

  3. So many questions and issues: Why aren’t the Arab and Muslim countries taking all of them? Israel took all the Jews expelled from Arab/Muslim countries in 1948 (had Israel existed in 1933, undoubtedly most European Jews would’ve gone there also). Is it because they don’t care, want to infiltrate Europe/USA with sympathizers, want the world to pay the bills, or do they just see their people as pawns, and these pawns have been deemed valueless for them to care for? I understand Trump, Putin, and Turkey are putting together a plan to divide Syria into safe areas for citizens, but do the people want to stay? Are Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc., all failed countries? What does the world do to stop the carnage and rebuild for the Syrians, etc.? Perhaps, its too late, with the Syrians fleeing and their places taken by Iranians, Hezbollah, and other Shiites. A very complicated mess exacerbated by Obama’s retreats, and the worlds “hands off” on enforcing against Islamic territories for fear of terrorist reprisal, loss of oil, or loss of big spending on their products. Quarantine/isolation can work for destructive diseases, how about destructive ideologies?
