U.S.’s Biggest Egg Seller Recalls Eggs After Salmonella Found


Cal-Maine Foods Inc., the nation’s biggest egg seller and distributor based in Jackson, Miss., is recalling  288,000 eggs the company purchased from supplier Ohio Fresh Eggs LLC after a test showed the presence of Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) at the Ohio farm, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Nov. 5.

Cal-Maine purchased approximately 24,000 dozen unprocessed eggs from Ohio Fresh which were processed and repackaged by the company’s Green Forest, Ark., facility Oct. 9-12, 2010. The recalled products include Sunny Meadow Jumbo, Sunny Meadow Large, Sunny Meadow Large 18, Sunny Meadow Extra Large, Sunny Meadow Extra Large 18, Sunny Meadow 5 Dozen, Sunny Meadow 6 Pack, Springfield Grocer Medium Loose, Springfield Grocer Extra Large Loose, Springfield Grocer Large Loose, Sun Valley Large and James Farm Medium.

The recalled eggs were distributed to food wholesalers and retailers in Arkansas, California, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.
