A resident called police on the LCSW watch group last night, saying the blinking lights on their patrol vehicles were disturbing him. The caller told police that the he was getting annoyed from the blinking white rooftop light when the patrol cars passed his home, while patrolling the area.
Police arrived, and so did two of the LCSW’s liaisons, who explained to the caller the purpose of the light, and what the Civilian Watch group was all about. The caller apologized for the inconvenience.
The LCSW (Lakewood Civilian Safety Watch) group are permitted to have a white blinking light on their vehicle, which indicates that they are from the group. The light helps residents identify the vehicle, and not confuse it with a suspicious vehicle circling the blocks.
Following recent home burglary incidents, the group – who serve as the ears and eyes for the Lakewood Police Department – has stepped up patrols throughout the night.
