Police Drug Bust Nabs 7 in Modi’in Illit Including Two Teens

Detectives in the anti-drug unit of the Police arrested suspects in Modi’in Illit who are being investigated for the possession and selling of illicit drugs. Among the seven suspects are two under-aged youngsters aged 14 and 17 respectively.

Undercover detectives from the Binyamin region who deal exclusively with crimes committed by youth documented a number of instances in which the suspects were involved in the purchasing and reselling of substances that are suspected of being illicit drugs.

From the information released so far in the investigation, the two youngsters are suspected of dealing thousands of shekels worth of cannabis and hashish.
Once enough evidence had been gathered the detectives revealed themselves and placed the youngsters, as well as those who purchased the drugs from them under arrest.

After a search of the residences of the two youngsters equipment such as scales, distribution bags, cash, and substances suspected of being illicit drugs were found in their possession as well as items that had been stolen in recent break-ins to local cars.

Three of the suspects were brought for arraignment to the Magistrate’s Court in Jerusalem on Wednesday.

  1. The criminalization of vice is a serious and destructive mistake. Only organized crime and corrupt public officials benefit from these laws. There is no moral or practical justifications for making any vice a crime. It will not stop the vice but instead drive its source of supply into the hands of criminal gangs. The legitimate role of government in vice is to regulate it the same way food, pharmaceuticals or manufactured goods are regulated.
