Rav Yosef’s Sefer Yalkut Yosef to be Printed in Amharic (Spoken in Ethiopia)

The popular sefer Yalkut Yosef, written by Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Yosef, among the most widely sold seforim in Eretz Yisrael, is now going to be printed in Amharic for the Ethiopian community.

Publishers explain the sefer is found in most Sephardi homes in Eretz Yisrael, and widely purchased in the Diaspora as well.

It appears a project is underway to translate many halachic seforim into Amharic for the many Ethiopians living in Israel, with the translation being reviewed and approved by HaRav Reuven Wabashat, the Chief Rabbi of Israeli’s Ethiopian community. To date, the first seforim on Orach Chaim have already been translated.

According to the officials in the Ministry of Religious Services, over 144,000 persons, most who describe themselves as “keeping tradition”, and about 25% of whom are from the chareidi and dati leumi communities, would benefit from the translation of the sefer, which explains the piskei halacha of HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L.
