Eretz Yisroel: Strauss to Label Non-Cholov Yisroel Products

strauss.jpgStrauss, one of Israel’s leading dairy companies, will prominently label products that contain ingredients derived from cholov nochri according to a compromise agreement submitted in court after a class-action suit was filed against the company.

According to the plaintiffs, Strauss misled kosher consumers who avoid dairy products containing milk ingredients produced outside of Israel. The arrangement was approved by Judge Nissim Yeshaya despite an objection by the Attorney General, who held that an inquiry should first be conducted by an objective entity to determine whether it is proper and reasonable.

The plaintiffs agreed to forego monetary compensation, demonstrating they were not motivated by a desire for monetary gain, but rather a desire to rectify the problem.

  1. Sounds like the attorney general is not happy that the charedim were able to reach a fair agreement. Too easy, got to make some trouble for them.

  2. and BTW Strauss imports from the EU not America so there is more concern of Cholov Stamm unlike in the States
