Military Police Arrest An AWOL Yeshiva Bochur From Tzefas Chabad Yeshiva


Military police arrived at Yeshivas Beis Levi Yitzchak of Chabad in Tzefas on Wednesday morning, and arrested a 19-year-old talmid who is listed as AWOL from military service.

Police awakened the talmid, and arrested him in his pajamas, eyewitnesses report, only showing him an arrest warrant once they were outside the building. According to the persons involved in the case, it marks the first arrest in the yeshiva, as to date, military police usually arrived in a talmid’s home.

The Yeshiva said the Bochur’s name is Meir Shalom ben Elisheva.

  1. AWOL means the person is a soldier who has run away from the army.

    The person in question never joined the Israeli army, and therefore the English word “AWOL” is inaccurate. In English the person is a draft resistor, or a draft evader, depending on motive. He is someone who has refused to be conscripted.
