Motzei Shabbos News Round-Up From Israel


On Motzei Shabbos in Israel a 23-year-old was seriously injured in Rehovot when he was stabbed in his upper body. He was treated by United Hatzalah and Magen David Adom team before he was taken to Kaplan hospital for further treatment.

A 40-year-old was moderately injured when he was hit by a car on Shazar Boulevard in Be’er Sheva on Motzei Shabbos. He was transported to Soroka hospital for treatment.

Gazan terrorists have continued to attack Israeli security forces positioned along the border between Israel and Gaza on Motzei Shabbos. The attacks come following Friday’s violent protests which saw two Gazan terrorists killed by Israeli forces after the protestors were throwing explosives at soldiers. The violent protests are now a year old.

2 million shekels in donations were raised in almost no time by Israelis who donated money in memory of Rabbi Achiad Ettinger who was  killed in a terror attack near the town of Ariel last week. The money was raised over the course of just a few days. It was given via a crowd-funding website here, and some 8,299 donors participated in achieving the goal of the donation campaign.

IAF planes attacked two terrorist cells in Gaza as they were launching balloon bombs at Israel on Shabbos afternoon. Health Ministry reports from Gaza said that there were numerous people injured in the attacks. Terrorists succeeded at launching a toy plane into Israel that carried a bomb. The plane was found in an open field in Israel and police sappers deactivated it.

A 50-year-old bicycle rider was seriously injured in Haifa on Shabbos when he was stuck by a car on Natan Elbaz St.

A 20-year-old was killed while when he was hit by a car at the Rosh Ha’Ayin interchange. Police believe that t he driver attempted to flee the scene after the incident and that he had been drinking.

A 4-year-old boy was moderately injured after he was scalded by hot water at his home in Ashdod.

Rafi Eitan, one of the founders of Israel’s intelligence agencies and a former Minister in the Israeli government, passed away on Shabbos. Eitan headed the former Pensioner’s party and served as the Minister for Pension Affairs in the 17th Knesset.

Eitan led a team to capture Nazi Mastermind Adolf Eichman. Eitan commanded an eight-man team who flew to Argentina in 1960 and spirited Eichmann back to Israel to stand trial.

Among his other accolades, Eitan served as the head of the Lekem, (an acronym for ha-Lishka le-Kishrei Mada), an Israeli intelligence agency that collected scientific and technical intelligence abroad from both open and covert sources, particularly for Israel’s nuclear program. He headed Lekem when Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard was arrested by the United States. Until the past few years, Eitan was still active in business ventures in Israel.
