Eli Yishai: Netanyahu Promised I Would Serve As A Minister

Chairman of the Yachad party, Eli Yishai, claims that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu promised him a ministerial post in the new government if he backed Yahadut Hatorah, which he did. Yahadut Hatorah earned an additional seat, moving from seven in the current administration to eight.

According to the report released by News13 correspondent Akiva Novak, PM Netanyahu does not deny the claim made by Yisrael but at present, he has to deal with Shas party chairman Minister Aryeh Deri, who is known to oppose appointing Yishai to a cabinet post and is likely to veto any effort to appoint Yishai to the incoming government.

Yishai surprised everyone on the eve of elections when he announced he was backing the Ashkenazi chareidi party, which he explained he did in line with instructions from HaGaon HaRav Meir Mazuz Shlita, his spiritual mentor. However, after he made his announcement, Yishai denied that he received any political favors for his decision to back Yahadut Hatorah.

Yahadut Hatorah officials have acknowledged that Yishai’s support was instrumental in gaining the eighth seat.

  1. Aryeh Deri, who is known to oppose appointing Yishai to a cabinet post Not your business, Deri. It is between Bibi Netayahu and Eli Yishai, and has nothing to do with Deri. If Deri would have behaved himself, it wouldn’t have become necessary for Eli Yishai, a good man, to cross over to Yahadut Hatorah.

  2. 147,
Since when is it for Yishai “necessary” to do anything?
Had he stayed, all those votes would have gone to waste the 2nd time.

Asides that, Deri does not owe him anything, Deri has built up shas from ground up..

  3. Eli Yishai, chairman of the non-existent Yachad party, that didn’t run in the elections, backed Yahadut HaTorah. He is now seeking some payback. Seems reasonable.
