Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit received hundreds of 250 text and other messages requesting that he launch an investigation against MK Yair Lapid for his incitement against the entire chareidi population – most notably his recently-released election video. Two suspects, who sent the original messages, were detained for questioning and later released. They are residents of Ashdod and Jerusalem in their 20s and 30s, and they were questioned for harassing the attorney general.
After the probe was launched last week, 12 people were questioned, mostly residents from the Bnei Brak and Jerusalem areas.
It appears that a link was used that was sent to a number of phones used by Mandelblit, distributed via WhatsApp to individuals and groups, resulting in the harassment messages. This led to the sending of over 250 messages requesting a probe against Lapid for his anti-chareidi election video, which were labeled “inciteful” and thereby illegal.
All persons questioned on suspicion of harassing a public official and invasion of privacy have been released with restrictions. They had to post bail as well.
