Blue and White chairman Benny Gantz on Wednesday condemned a massive chareidi anti-draft protest planned for Thursday in Jerusalem, calling the demonstration “dangerous for Israeli society — and dangerous for the chareidi community.”
The rally, organized by representatives of Degel HaTorah, Agudas Yisroel, Shas and other chareidi factions, comes amid fury over a wave of arrests of Yeshiva Bochrim who ignored enlistment orders.
Addressing the chareidi public before a faction meeting, Gantz said: “At a time when our hostages are returning, soldiers are still in Gaza, and families and businesses are trying to rebuild, you, who didn’t carry the burden, are now poking a finger in the eye of those who did?”
He urged chareidi rabbis and political leaders to intervene and called on the community not to cooperate with extremists. “I call first and foremost on the chareidi public not to cooperate with extremists, and I call on the Rabbonim to stop this madness,” he said.
Gantz reiterated Blue and White’s position on conscription, saying the party will only join a government that enacts a universal draft law. “We will not join a government that sends soldiers to war while also funding draft evasion,” he said.

How is it that nobody here in the comments seems to care at all about the hundreds of thousands of soldiers who sacrificed their learning (for the many thousands of frum soldiers), their parnosa, their family lives, their emotional and physical health, and even their very lives on behalf of everyone in Israel? Husbands and fathers who have had to leave their families for two years due to the IDF manpower shortage?
I didn’t hear anyone speaking against soldiers. I only hear people speaking against the attorney general and supreme court that unilaterally decided to end the learning exemption overnight and criminalize an entire sect of society without any negotiation whatsoever and no sensitivity to what the status quo has always been. You think a society is going to change overnight? I didn’t say that anyone is speaking against the soldiers. I said that nobody here seems to care about the terrible, crushing burden that they have been under due to the manpower shortage. And who’s talking about changing “overnight”? It’s been two years! I just met a young woman with three children, one of whom has developed severe problems due to his father being at war for most of the past two years. She’s due to give birth next week and her husband is going back in. She told me that he could get out of it, but he feels bad to make things even harder for the other men in his unit. Why does nobody here seem to care about any of this?
