Vilnai: We are Rapidly Approaching a Gaza Operation

Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai stated that we are rapidly approaching an IDF operation in Gaza due to the current deterioration in the security situation.

Addressing a Beersheva audience on Shabbos, the former senior IDF Southern District Commander explained that a major IDF operation may soon become reality due to the deterioration in the security situation, adding there have been major Gaza operations in the past but this one will be totally different.

The continued explaining the actions of the terrorists in Gaza do not leave Israel any other alternative, “and we must seek out the correct time, and at present, it appears it is just a matter of time until a major operation is launched.”

“Syria and Iran have developed long-range missiles that not only reach the center of the country, but to Mitzpei Rimon (southern area). The axis of evil composed of Beirut-Hizbullah Tehran-Damascus poses a serious threat to Israel. Therefore, we must prevent Iran from reaching nuclear capabilities. This too is a matter of time and we are preparing ourselves accordingly.”

He went on to explain “Hamas is not a partner for as long as it does not recognize our right to exist and continues striking out at citizens and soldiers. Israel has another Palestinian prospect and he is Abu Mazen. It is tragic that he continues to wane in support. Israel is seeking a solution and welcomes a dialogue with the Palestinians but in Gaza, there is no one to talk to and the only language understood is military might.”

Following the mortar shell attack in the Nachal Oz base in which eight soldiers were injured, Vilnai rejected entertaining any thought of removing the soldiers as was the case in the southern Zikim Base, stating it is out of the question.

Also attending the Shabbos Tarbut event was Likud MK Dr. Yuval Shteinitz, who stated that after the election when the Likud come to power, “Gaza will undergo an extensive root canal procedure which will halt the continued deterioration of the security situation in southern Israel.
