Police believe the fire on Tuesday that resulted in heavy damage to a shul on Haifa’s Netiv Chen Street was most likely an arson attack. According to fire marshals, the Heichal Shimshon Shul appears to have been targeted by arsonists based on the preliminary evidence at the fire scene.
Haifa has recently been site of increased anti-Semitic attacks, which some attribute to the city’s relatively large number of non-Jewish former Russian immigrants and Arabs.

Pardon my ignorance, but while I can understand why Jewish Russians would immigrate to Israel, why would a “relatively large number” of non-Jewish Russians have done so?
