Due to the efforts of MK (Shas) David Azoulai, in his capacity as chairman of the Knesset Interior Committee, it appears Israel Police on Monday will give final approval to permit 50 admorim and prominent rabbonim to receive VIP status on Lag B’Omer, permitting them to arrive at Kever Rashbi in a private vehicle.
Azoulai worked with Public Security Minister Yitzchak Aharonovitch, who is reported to have complied with requests to increase the number of VIP passes issued this year.
Last week, YWN reported that only five admorim would be issued VIP passes as police explained that this new policy was one of the lessons learned from the fiasco that took place last year, with traffic snarls running for miles.
On Sunday night, Azoulai explained the 50 permits were not yet final, but he expressed optimism that he would be successful in securing the permits for the rabbonim today, Monday.
