Israel Navy officials reported in the IDF’s weekly BaMachane magazine that mashgichim operating on naval vessels will be combat certified, quite a change from the usual image of a kashrus professional.

Navy officials hope the combat mashgichim, who will be deployed on vessels, will enhance the standard of kashrus, reports Navy Chief Rabbi Benayahu Jamus, adding he is looking into acquiring new refrigerator/oven units that will permit serving sailors warm food on shabbos.

To date, frum sailors are given a stipend to buy salads and other foods for shabbos before setting out to sea, aware the current accommodations do not permit a warm shabbos meal.
