Israel: Foreign National Apprehended Red Handed with Police Chief’s Cellular

A few hours after someone broke into Israel Police Chief Dudi Cohen’s vehicle, the chief’s cellular telephone was found in the possession of a Nepal national in southern Tel Aviv. When questioned by police, the suspect insisted he purchased the phone in the old central bus station, denying any connection to any illegal activity. The store owner was taken into custody as well, and after questioning, the two were released.

While the police chief was home in Givatayim with his family on Friday afternoon, someone smashed a window of his car and made off with his cellular telephone. Police officials report that phone did not have any classified numbers.

Police tracked down the signal of the cellular and moved in on the suspect a relatively short time following the break-in.

Officials are questioning how someone managed to break into the vehicle when the police chief is assigned round-the-clock security.

  1. Why was the Police Chief given preferential treatment in tracking down this thief?

They don’t go hunting the signal of every stolen cell phone when the victim is the common man.
