Pollard Supporters Launch TV Ad Campaign In Push For Clemency

As the momentum continues to build in the push for clemency for Jonathan Pollard, supporters of the effort to release Pollard have launched a major television ad campaign, which urges people to contact the White House and ask the President to free Pollard.  The 30-second ad is currently airing throughout New York City on CNN, Fox News Channel, and MSNBC.

The ad comes amidst a groundswell of support for clemency for Pollard among prominent government officials, high-ranking individuals in the national intelligence arena, and leading professionals in the legal world.  Pollard has spent the past 25 years in a federal prison for passing classified information to Israel.

As images of Federal Judge Stephen Williams, a Senior Circuit Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit; former Attorney General Michael Mukasey; former CIA Director James Woolsey; former Senator and Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee Dennis DeConcini; and former Assistant Secretary of Defense Lawrence Korb appear on the screen, a voiceover is heard saying the following:

Jonathan Pollard has served 25 years in prison.

His life sentence much longer than anyone else convicted of the same offense.

Federal Judge Stephen Williams calls this “a gross miscarriage of justice.”

Many other prominent American citizens familiar with the facts, including Michael Mukasey, James Woolsey, Dennis DeConcini, and Lawrence Korb have called on President Obama to release him……so should you.

25 years is enough.  Contact the White House.

The final image that appears in the ad encourages viewers to contact the White House at 202-456-1111 and tell President Obama to free Jonathan Pollard now.  Viewers are directed to www.jonathanpollard.org for more information.

This historic ad campaign is the latest effort in the ongoing bi-partisan campaign to free Jonathan Pollard.  Former CIA Director James Woolsey, former White House Counsel Bernard Nussbaum, former Deputy Attorney General and Harvard Law Professor Philip Heymann, former Senator and Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee Dennis DeConcini, and Congressman Anthony Weiner of New York, each of whom had the opportunity to thoroughly review Pollard’s classified file and is fully familiar with the circumstances of his case, have called for Pollard’s release.

In addition, a wide array of American leaders have called for a commutation of Pollard’s grossly disproportionate sentence, including former Vice President Dan Quayle, former U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz, former Attorney General Michael Mukasey, former Arkansas governor and former Republican Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, former Senator and Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee Arlen Specter, Senator Charles Schumer of New York, former Assistant Secretary of Defense Lawrence Korb, former New York City Mayor and former Republican Presidential candidate Rudolph Giuliani, Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel, well-known conservative leader Gary Bauer, Rev. Theodore Hesburgh of Notre Dame, Pastor John Hagee, and Harvard Law Professor Charles Ogletree, who was President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama’s law professor at Harvard and remains friends with them today.

  1. This is not a good idea. It will only bring more hate upon us.

We must never forget that we jews are in Galus (exile) do you really think that we can override this? Think again!! A decree is set until final and everlasting redemtion.

  2. Lamid Vov Zaddik, if you are truly a zaddik, then you would care about a fellow Jew as you would your own brother. What kind of nonsense is that to abandon a Jew who is the victim of Weinberger’s anti-Semitism? An attitude like that only lengthens the galus. Ask a Rav before paskening for yourself to ignore a brother rotting in jail.
