U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro announced a 15-count federal indictment targeting an alleged international car theft ring.
• Prosecutors say the group used an electronic device known as an Autel to rewrite a vehicle’s internal computer and program blank key fobs, allowing cars to be stolen in under a minute without keys, smashed windows, or hot wiring.
• Authorities say stolen vehicles were then moved from U.S. streets to overseas black markets.
