what sheichus chessmasters?!? as for switching yeshivos..we do, we switch branches. plus the derech halimud and hashkafos in other yeshivos are just so out of touch sometimes with CC that people dont switch, and by the way i know many CC guys who DO attend other yeshivos. in slabodka did they go to college at night…as for that. in slabodka i doubt they had the opportunities that we now have with touro and the like. we have the opportunity to attend a seperate college full of mostly jews. i doubt they had that there.

as for the derech halimud, we dont claim that our DERECH HALIMUD comes from slabodka…we say our emphasis on mussar is from slabodka. our derech halimud comes more from the chofetz chaim (who was r’ dovid’s uncle i believe) and by the way…what you said about a few blatt…that is just a stereotype. we do cover ground…just covering ground is not our main objective in iyun. our main objective is to gain as much of an understanding, and reach the true pshat in the sugya we are dealing with. to cover ground we have bekiyus. although let it be said we go in depth in our bekiyus too,,,but we cover a lot more ground. as for sending out groups of boys to other yeshivos…may we be zoche

not to sound like a broken record…but honestly if you want the best balance between torah and mussar with a pretty good limudei chol department choose chofetz chaim (yty)

its a very good and reasonable rule…in this case however, the method of enforcement is a bit too harsh…but in general? why not?

pardon my use of english…but for all of you who want to type yiddish in the proper way…here is a guide. this is for windows users only…i dont know mac…but here goes.

start>control panel (please be sure to be in classic view in the control panel for this…you can find classic view on the top left of the control panel window)>regional and language options> heres where it splits up.

for windows xp in the window that opens up select the languages tab. in the bottom half of the window that opens..select the first check box to install hebrew on your computer. you will need a windows xp disc to install hebrew. after you have done that, (or if you already had hebrew installed) select the details button on th etop half of the window. toward the bottom right of the window that opens click add. scroll down in the menu that appears and select hebrew, click ok then click apply. you may now close all those windows. to switch between hebrew and english on your keyboard press alt and shift (on the left side of the keyboard).

heres for vista…in the window that opens up…select the keyboards and languages tab. click change keyboards. once again select add scrool down to hebrew and click the little “+” sign to the left. select the next “+” and then check the box that says hebrew. click ok…then apply, and once agian to switch between languages press alt and shift on the left side.

for windows 7 in the control panel under the “clock language and region” section, click the “change keyboards or other input methods” link. from here its the same as vista.

mods please post this it took me some time, and i hope i helped some of you.

so criticize away…there is free speech (to an extent) allowed on this forum…im giving the pros of chofetz chaim as i know them (as a person who went there and had a great experience) but the cons are simply, maybe chofetz chaim just isnt for you. as for r’ shaya cohen…hehehe…he must have said “there are many mekomos of torah but CC is the only yeshiva” lol he has a point, its the closest to a real yeshiva experience (in terms of what yeshivos used to be, and in terms of a personal relationship with your rebbeim) that you will see almost anywhere. but like chesedname said, you have to discuss this with your rav (or your current rebbi who will be less biased than r’ shaya cohen) i know my rebbi didnt overadvertize CC if he felt it wasnt the right yeshiva for the bochur. we cant really help you here because we dont really know you, we only know about our yeshiva experiences…but every person is different and every person needs something else from their yeshiva.

first of all…which branch are you in. second of all he is right chofetz chaim is closest to what yeshivos used to be…third of all the derech halimud is great…fourth of all the bochurim are very nice…fifth of all you will probably be a better person by staying there…sixth of all…why not stay there?

not knowing anything about you and really why you dont like chofetz chaim…its kinda hard to recommend a yeshiva without actually knowing you…but here goes.

i think you really can gain learning skills in a chofetz chaim…but maybe wits just isnt for you. there are more branches than wits…look around, go for a week, look around.

dont let anyone bully you into joining a certain yeshiva or staying in a certain yeshive, but before you decide or write off a yeshiva you should probably go and check them out:) by the way…you could probably find a yeshiva in israel better suited to your purposes, id recommend looking into that.

heres just an add on (lol) to chofetzchaim’s post

in adblock plus…if there are pics and vids or content of any kind that is getting past adblock plus…you can add in a filter.

what you need is the address where the picture is…RIGHT click on the content, and click copy link address…or copy image location…or copy image URL.

then, click to the right of the adblockplus button on the top right of your firefox page…there should be a little drop down menu there…click on that and select preferences

on the bottom left of the window that opens, click add filter and paste the link in the input line that opens. (for the sake of demonstration ill use the link to addblock plus) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

what you can do to block any content from the site providing that content…you trunchate the link to just the actuat root web address, and add a wildcard function after that. for all of you who didnt understand that…heres a demonstration.

to block all content from (in this case) mozilla.com i would take this link…

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 and knock it down the main part which would be https://addons.mozilla.org/, and then add an * after that / to filter out any and all content provided by mozilla in all my future browsing. that would look like this https://addons.mozilla.org/* and hit on on the bottom right of the window. congratulations you have just added your first custom filter. (by the way dont block content from mozilla.com) i hope i have explained this well…if you have questions please post them.

hmmm…thats a very interesting question. a filter is never foolproof. trust me. im a geek. there is no filter out there that i know of that you cant get around.

blacklists (essentially how filters work) are by no means foolproof…

your best bet if you want to be safe is a whitelist (which only allows certain sites and blocks EVERYTHING else) on which is a list of the sites you NEED…and nothing else, and to have someone else hold the password. but even those arent absolutely foolproof.

the internet is a necessary tool. as necessary as walking in the street. walking in the street, there are many nisyonos that we all face walking in the streets in terms of pritzus, and we have to deal with it, because we all need to walk in the street. we need to use discretion, and i know that is hard when the nisayon is so hard but all we can do is our best.

also in addition to the whitelists…you can use the add ons mentioned above…ALSO…you can have your network traffic dumped to a specific location for someone else to peruse at his leisure…(providing you are on the same network because oif not you would have to email the list to him and that would defeat the purpose…)

hmmm…i once DID hear a heter…(i no longer recall the exact reason…) but even so it shouldnt be done because it can be meorer taivah…best to either stick to the classics or going original. for example a simple trip to canal jeans in flatbush makes for a great costume. or…you can sew up your own costume…my grandfather once made me a costume based on the pic if the rambam that we have…(which is not him…), i have a friend who sewed himself a costume (which came out EXCELLENT!) there are so many more tasteful and oroginal ideas out there than cross dressing, because honestly…why would you?

yes we do need to be worried about it…no question about that. however…to what lengths are we willing to go to cut off one hydra head…it will just grow back…you arent taking care of the root of the problem, and as such i feel it is wrong to demean and inconvenience the rest (and majority i am sure) of bochurim in a yeshiva. if cellphones were the root problem…then go ahead…have pat downs and full body scans…but otherwise? youre just doing more damage than good.

ok…seeing as i have been getting a lot of guff about my controversial choice of usernames…ill explain.

in sixth grade we used to have classwide IM chats after school…it was quite fun. well me…being who i am…decided to scare the (well…) dybbuk out of them…i used to come up with all kind of crazy screen names…then i would log on and freak them out. basically bombmaniac was the most successful one of these choices…so (in sixth grade) i decided to keep it.

the reason why i dont change it is because since then i have been very active on various blogs…debate forums…and whatnot and people actually have recognized me from various sites 😀 so you see…i have a persona to maintain here…lol

(btw most people who recognize me do so because i got kicked off the site they frequent…but lets see how long i last here :D)
