I personally know of people that went through this cult, and now have major issues in life (they were/are mentally stable people. One ex. a shidduch was put off last minute..).

Circumventing the law by not marring off the kids at 14-15 legally, but having a chuppah, in this day and age is child abuse.

The kids were given vitamin pills before the reporters came.

Even the pictures are posed. (Lets all line up and run to the camera… Tip: next time have the kids play with each other, if they even know how to).

I dont understand the reporter’s sentiments in regards to thinking that since it was all in the past we don’t prosecute anymore. If this group only stopped doing something while being watched, how can anyone trust them?

It is not hypercritical to claim that the kids are being taken away in part due to the fact that they are being forced away from their parents within the cult. Since the reason the cult does that (and marry them off young), is a tactic to keep the parents from running away.

Taking away the kids is the only legal option left to break apart this cult and to save the kids – yes to save them. (The are not put into foreign speaking homes, rather into chasidish homes nearby). Hopefully the parents can then leave the cult and repossess their kids.

This newspaper uses the same tactic as the cult, that this is our issue, not the cults.

The only true part is about education, but the schools are in negotiations about that.

Here we are dealing with run aways, mind control, child abuse (mostly mentally) and part of it is a lack of education.

That is not enough to write a half of a magazine equating klall yisroel to them.

The Rabbonim of Montreal did not endorse the group, they just wrote about the chumra of mesira.

There are even Rabbonim that say it is a mitzvah to maaser is this case due to the horrible things that happened to so many people that came out of the cult. (Im talking suicidal).

They have clearly written a biased article.

Either they wanted to sell some papers over Pesach, or “the writer” got influenced by the cult leader during his 3 hour meeting.

I know plenty of people that will not buy the this newspaper anymore.

(I would like to relate a story that belongs in this thread, and which may pertain to some of the commenters.)

When i was in yeshiva in E”Y about three years ago, I had eaten a seuda by Hagoan Harav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita. The experience was something that I wish everyone can experience, for it is hard to explain in words the palpable kedusha that was felt in the air. It was a friday night seuda, and by R’ Chaim Shlita on Shabbos most of the lights are not on. In the dining room there is one light bulb near the door that stays on. (The reason for this minhag is spoken about). Throughout the seuda the grandchildren and other guests of R’ Chaim Shlita were asking questions, mainly in regards to halacha. I was quiet for a while, but then started getting more comfortable, and felt a little left out of the fun. I reminded myself of a side sugya i was learning, it was about birchas mezonos. There is a halacha that if there is any mezonos in a food, even a minority, one makes a mezonos on that food (except if it is hamotzi). So the question arrises with shnitzel (chicken cutlets) , if the beracha should be mezonos. So i asked R’ Chaim in yiddish “what beracha does one make on shnitzel,” he looks up and asked, “Vos is shintzel, ich vais nisht vos dos is” (what is shnitzel)? Now that is amazing that someone in EY does not know what shnitzel is!

Another amazing story from that seuda came right after the seuda when R’ Chaim left left the dining room, the three bachurim including myself stayed to thank the Rebitzen Aleha Hashalom, and as was her custom, throughout her life she always praised and expressed reverence for her husband. Then also she related a story that happened not long before we came. The first part of the story happened many years before, and is known by many. She related that first. As R’ Chaim was writing a sefer on chagavim (locust), He realized that he was missing the identification of a single chagav. He did all he could to try to find the specifications, his daughter was asked to check with sciences, but to avail. Before the Shabbos seuda that week, that chagav was sitting there on the table. Harav Chaim studied it and thus was able to finish his sefer!

The Rebitzen continued, there was a kollel in Bnei Brak that was learning the sugya of chagavim, a number of weeks prior. The Rosh Kollel said over the story that happened to R’ Chaim when he was learning that sugya. There was one man in the kollel with obnoxious attitude denied that such a story could happen with R’ Chaim. The man went home that day to find his apartment infested with chagavim! (Just like tzefardea, said the Rebitzen). The man called exterminators and for three days tried to get rid of them, but to no avail. He went to his Rosh Kollel and asked him what to do. He told him to ask mechila from R’ Chaim Shlita, so he went and R’ Chaim said “I dont know what you want from me, but machul lach machul lach machul lach”. Yup it was all gone!!!

“If we have a TV, we’ll be able to overlook what, if at all our kids our watching. However, if we dont have one, there’s always situations where children ‘sneak’ and watch at a friends house.”

I dont understand the difference, even (and especially) if you had one and controled what your kids watched “there’s always situations where children ‘sneak’ and watch at a friends house”!

Yea it really is cute, I didn’t think anyone would discover me either (I guess I gave it away by saying I’m a cousin of….And then u said something and I googled ur old posts and got a profile and u sort of gave it away by one of the posts but just I would chop since….) But I don’t regret it. Anyways I think its ur turn for me to try to find u someone so I asked ur bro more about u, but I want to know if u could narrow it down more clearly (how many years…) But I know there is a very fine line as to what we can post so do so carefully, or maybe we will correspond outside of the CR (email or maybe a seuda……lol!.) 🙂

Cutie pie: Yes, and I know I shouldn’t have it (bec its not filtered) but since I got a smart phone At&t automatically added a data plan to the phone, so I put it down to the minimum requirement @ 200 MB a month which is very little so I can’t stream any videos or be on to much. I thought I can get around it when I got my phone but they became very strict on that rule that u have to get a data plan on a smart phone (I bought a refurbished bb), so now I’m looking for a good phone (qwerty keyboard with good camera) and not a smart phone because I want to cancel the data plan.

Always here, I guess ur right, but these days all communication is done through electronics. Also this way one can say or express even small talk and whatever comes to ur mind. However a phone call is usually more official, since there is more of a connection. The tweeting and chatting is also good for reuniting old friends or people that one would never say much to otherwise, and through this u could learn more about the other one, especially since with the instant messaging one just spurs anything that comes to his mind without thinking to much (I’m not saying that phone conversations can’t b like that too).

I will also try to keep the chevra updated on the new camp when I hear more from my cousin. Is there any thing in specific that u would like me to find out about? (I was also in camp agudah for 5 years so I know about eli merinstein (elmer) he’s a great guy, but I don’t know about his new camp so I didn’t say anything).

I’m not at all intimidated from them, what I mean to say is that I see how bad they feel to say no and its a whole big thing (they tell … And then I hear about it from…) So I don’t want them to feel bad. Its also my laziness that I think about (the walk…) So it doesn’t work out but eventually……. Anyways its all good !

Maybe ill c u motz”sh. Have a good one! Send regards (just kidding)! 🙂

Really no need to be sorry I said it as a joke, I thought u knew about the kugal… What happened was one week when i called ur parents for a seudah it wasn’t a good week, I heard from my parents about how bad they felt, then on a dif week again it didn’t work out (u had friends over) so they started making me a kugel every thurs night (I was thinking of saying no thanx, but I realized that it will make them feel better if I take it, oh and yea, it was good) then after some time I wasn’t available to get it when he passed by it stopped, its good bec now I’m on a diet and go to gym nightly (and kugal would be like carbon dioxide and oxygen -not good chemistry for my stomach). Since then I feel bad asking bec I’m afraid it wouldn’t be a good week and then they will start sending me a full seuda on thurs nights. Don’t worry I have plenty of places to eat besides yeshiva (I hate eating in yeshiva I like a fam. matzav). Also I usually bring friends along but that probably wouldn’t work by ur house (?), and might wait for more boyish company to come back from out of town, but maybe not. So please don’t feel bad cause these things don’t mean anything to me (I make seudas last minute, not like in sem, for ex. I have no clue what I’m doing this week and I always have those last min back ups)

And geshmackster I am not sure what’s gona be there 1st half, I think I heard that it will be rented out but u can call the # I posted earlier.

The person that is opening the camp is my cousin so I have the inside scoop! No, the camp is not at all for the former beit kaita guys, it is for the yeshivishe crowd like achim and kol torah type. Note the times are exactly the 4 weeks of bein hazmanim for that reason. And no, he is not cutting back on anything from what the regular camps have, he is charging 1300$ and is not making a profit (getting subsidized), he’s doing this leshem shamayim (leiluy nishmas his father a”h whom was just nifter)to lower the standards of the prices in camps. The learning director and rabbeim are rabbi hershkowitz and rabbi stein, (I think from the cheder in lakewood). The phone # for applications and info is 732-905-5353
