    Its really not pashut.

Its not something u often hear spoken about. But, the fact is that there are plenty of fine BY maidels/yeshiva guys that come from wonderful families, top schools and are simply not prepared for what they encounter in mixed offices. Unfortunately, they loose their sensitivity to things they were previously very careful about and their standards drop….

Start memorizing Ramban’s and Or Hachayims. Some Kli Yakars would benefit you too.

    Joking.

Just relax. Deep breaths. You’ll do just fine. There isn’t much you can do to prepare yourself for these interviews. Just be yourself, daven well before, and remember: everything is basheret, so what ever the results of the interview may be…. its for your best!

For those who commute using the NY trains, I’m sure you are familiar with gentiles collecting money on the cartes. I was just wondering, are we obligated to give them something (even small amount like dollar/quarter) because poeple recognize us as being jewish, and it would surely make a kiddush hashem. Or, do we not have to bother because 1) they are gentiles 2) no one else in the cart gives them anyway, so why do we have to be differnt?

“But you should only double park those times in a manner that you are not completely blocking someone from leaving”

Helpful – That would be another form of mentchlechkeit.

I know this thread is specifically about blocking driveways, I just wanted to add something about blocking parked cars.

On days of alternate side parking one side of the street has to be completely cleared for approx 2 hours. Officially its illegal to double park on the other side. However, for those 2 hours its overlooked and u will not be ticketed.

Very often I see people who want to drive off, but they CANT because they are parked next to the curb, and they are blocked by a double parked car.

Please practice some mentchlechkeit. If u will temporarily double park your car due to alternate side parking, and your blocking in another car, leave a telephone number on your car where u can be reached so that u can move your car if necessary.

Next time your in a department store and ur debating between a Tommy H sweater adn a Ralph Lipshits sweater, be sure to purchase Ralph L. That way you will be helping a jewish designer with parnasah.

    WIY- “Middos comes with maturity”

I disagree with you. Middos do not come with maturity. There are plenty of mature poeple who treat their wives like garbage.

Middos is something you work on, and perfect.

Where in the Torah does it say that one needs prerequisites to get marred?

Why do some think that in order for a guy to get married he needs to be on a certain level of maturity, he needs to have a certain dosage of life experience, he needs to have a degree (or a parnasah plan of how to support his family for the next 100 yrs)?

Whats wrong if a guy gets married young and accomplishes these things after marriage, together with his spouse? They can learn and gain life experience together, and he can persue a degree… work… learn… In short, he can do after marriage ANYTHING he can do before.

The only prerequitsite for marriage is good midos. If a guy doesnt have that (and i dont care how old he is) he is not suited for marriage.

Get Married Young. There is no reason to wait.

The Shulchan Aruch says boys should get married at age 18 (no later than 20)

“how much more mature and ready for marriage will another yr or two in beis medrash make a bachur”- maturity doesn’t necessarily come with age, it comes with responsibility. I know plenty of 30 and 40 yr olds who are on the maturity level of 10 yr olds.

I dont believe the 2 more years in beis medrash will make bachurim into better husbands.

Get married young! (its more complicated once once ur older)

    Sacrilege,

Just because i initiated this thread it doesn’t make it mine. Its public. So you dont have to worry about being offensive- feel free to share your thoughts.

I agree with you that “Smoking is an addiction and those who dont quit are either too lazy to stop or dont care enouth too”. However, it bothers me that this addiction is so rampant in our community in which we are raised to value health(v’neshmartem…) and to work on self control.

Perhaps you haven’t come across the recent studies that i have. Yes, obviously one would have to be exposed to excessive amount of smoke for it to have an effect on him like the smoker. Unfortunately, for part of my day i am exposed to way to much smoke, as i’m sure many others are too.

(And btw, cancer is just one of the many many pathologies that smokers (and 2nd hand smokers) are at high risk for)

Blinki – There are ways to lower cholesteral and unclog arteries from pizza and fries. Smoking is much more sever, because there isn’t a lot one can do to undue the garbage in their lungs.

WIY – I understand its an addiction, but wouldn’t a sober person who understands how serious it is find a way to stop? or perhaps is it that people dont think its so sever?

Sacrilege – I really want to know WHY poeple are still smoking. Not because i’m concerned for the smokers, because i’m concerned for myself. Recent studies show that second hand smoke is just as dangerous, and i am fed up with having to hypoventilate when i am around smokers.

Yitzy99 – you are so right! Its also ironic to see sometimes sitters or mothers leave babies in the carriage at the front of a store, while they take their pocket books with them and stroll around the store to shop.

Thank you for bringing up this important issue! I often take children to parks in both boro park and flatbush and i see this happening all the time. The examples you give are exactly whats going on, and its really really sad. So many times i see toddlers running around with zero supervision, sometimes i wonder if they just took a stroll to the park by themselves. What irks me the most is when the babysitters strap the kids in the swings and push them for an HOUR while they enjoy shmoozing. No kid wants to be shaken up for a full hour. But hey, it works for the babysitter -she doesn’t have to run around.

Parents, its your your kids we’re talking about. Do Something!

Regardless of what she chooses to do, if she uses public transportation(buses/trains) tell her to be prompt. They come and go on the exact schedualed second. Literally.

Also, phrum is right, Tommy mayo is definitely a worthwhile purchase! Its the best mayo ever! (and its 100% kosher even though it doesn’t have a hechsher on it)

I know of a of a young aidel girl who carries a blackberry ( she is really not someone you would expect to have one). Apparently she is in nursing school and is required to carry with her on her hospital rotations a certain software that contains a list of drugs and their purposes. Blackberries are one of the few phones that can have this software installed in them.

    you never know someones reasons……..
