We don’t Pasken like that Reb Yaakov. (Pah ha ha)

Think of it this way: We bring up our kids to speak clean.

How about, let our people discuss Torah. If you feel the need to LOR people, fine. Why does a normal thread have to close to non moderators?

It drives me right up the wall and through the roof. — and through the vents.

I once heard of someone who did this, too. He got free electric because he worked for the company. He should have used a humidifier, too. Those things really dry out the air.

Jothar, I think you misunderstood OneOfMany. He was talking about the grammer, not about you.

Do you really think someone got people’s email addresses by asking a few too personal questions? Like I said, it seems like there is more than one issue here. Perhaps they are connected, perhaps not.

This idea is as good as saying, “Is the steam on too high for you? Oh, so turn on the air conditioner.”

The ‘dislike’ you mention is a vestige of Hisnagdus. Although Hisnagduss itself is mainly gone, the psychological barrier remained. As a result, most Litvishe Melumadim are, for the most part, completely ignorant of Chasidishe ideas. Therefore, anyone who was close to a non-Chasidishe Rebbe who heads toward Chasidus will get a funny response.

On the other hand, the term you use, “learning Chassidus”, is usually used by the ones who kept vestiges of anti-Litvishe sentiments. That might be what is feeding your attitude.

BTguy, there seems to be two issues going on here. Jothar says that with his keen eye, he noticed phishing. He contacted the moderators, or owners, and they agreed. Besides this, if you read the MIB (Mod In Bold) on this thread you will see that they have a different issue. Both combined makes this, and related, threads confusing.

We’re in middle of having fun debating/discussing an interesting topic. Why do we have to stop this one in favor of another.

Very true. A point is often brought out better when it is concise and to the point. A language-to-language dictionary has one word where an English-to-English dictionary would need a sentence, and it is a better explanation of the word’s usage.

However, this cannot always be done. For example, my fly-hurting thread has a huge OP, but I couldn’t brake it up. What you can do, is to break it into paragraphs.

The Ohr Hachayim Hakadosh writes on the Pasuk of Im Ra’isa Shor Re’echa, that if you see a Yid straying you should bring him back to his owner.

To tell you the truth, I don’t get where you are coming from. Every Yid is Mechuyav in all the Mitzvos and Kol Yisroel Areivim, so it follows that you should do what you can to bring them back to the fold. What can be a bigger Mezake Es Harabim?

For kids at risk it is good to share your struggles. This way they won’t look at themselves as outsiders. Many times they feel that everyone else keeps everything and walks around with Shivisi-Hashem-Lenegdi-Tamid on their mind, just as their Rebbe led them to believe, while they themselves actually have their own desires. This makes them feel like they can never participate. When you share your realistic ups and downs, it can bring them closer by showing that there is room for them and their struggles, too.

In the case of Kiruv Rechokim, I don’t see how this will be a benefit. Sure it is good to understand that we all have struggles and week moments. If they know that it is something that you are working on changing is fine, or even great. On the other hand, to see Halacha being defied is counter-productive.

However, in the case of the OP, when you go to the next Kiruv event, why don’t you try sitting down on the other side of the table?

That is why, in any article about our community in a newspaper, they’ll have: ‘said Miriam, who didn’t want to give her last name.’ You don’t want to face three Minyanim teasing you on your public comment as you walk into Shul for the next three weeks.

Let’s learn it together. I learned it using Rashi and a bit of Metzudos. There is a Kuntres that the Baal Tosafos Yomtov made on this topic. The Malbim has a radically different interpretation of the whole Parsha, if you want that. Keep in mind, though, what the Radak writes in the beginning of it. He writes that this Parsha will be Darshaned by Eliyahu Hanavi. Until then it is not entirely clear. Even Rashi wrote in a letter that he made a mistake, even though later in the Parsha he did mention the correct design. There is a Rashi there that ends saying that he didn’t have any help and he wrote as he was assisted by heaven.

People, especially Bochurim, don’t know how much to take. They take a drink and don’t feel anything different, so they take another, and another. Then it all hits at once. Perhaps, if more people would drink, the Bochurim wouldn’t have to figure this out on their own. Instead of yelling at them, they should be shown, or told, what to do.

If you take a little, it makes you able, and willing, to dance without regard to tiredness and anything else that weighs you down.

Dancing on Simchas Torah is not a product of everybody being moved to dance. We know that we should dance, for the Simchas Hatorah, and we do. That creates the Simcha, which we are making for the Torah. When you drink, you are creating more Simcha.

Metro, is this any different than the Monsey bus? To me it sounds like a trick. You are calling it a franchise but that only means the route you are taking.

The mayor said that if you want you can make a private bus service and then you can do what you want. Was he just making noise or is there such an option?

I do think that it is a very good point to mention, that it is not a company inforced rule. The passengers sit separately on their own. Even if one passenger tells another to change a seat that has nothing to do with the company.

I see Itche’s point. You cannot manipulate the Safek to avoid the flavored aspect. Only once you establish that it is flavored do you start wondering if the flavor was Treif. In the green bottle example, it is possible to be Treif in any color.

That story of him being a rabbi was one of his jokes. He said that he used to be a rabbi, and that when he would Darshen people would fall asleep. He therefore added some jokes. After seeing the great results he added more and more jokes, until he was left with just the jokes.

It reminds me of Tehillim 151. There was a guy who didn’t find any reference to Galyas in Tehillim. He decided to help out David Hamelech and fill in what he obviously forgot. Naturally, one look at his job shows such a cheap shot. You can find it in a thick Sefer called, Sefarim Chitzonim.

The problem they had with Ben Sira is that his Lashon sounded like a Pasuk. This ‘passage’ doesn’t have that problem.
