I find that i can listen to Shwekeys first few albums – until Ad Bli Da – and i still love them. I can still find Shwekey Yedid interesting. His voice has changed since then – from Ad Bli Dai and Cry No More, his voice is different – and the way he sings. Has anybody noticed?

Abie Rotenberg – the maalos of his songs are the tunes and the lyrics, and those are different each song. It is when the songs are unoriginal and simply the voice that you are listening to, then you’ll get bored eventually!

I have been a fan for about eight months now, yet i only created an account recently. I’ve noticed that it’s been less heated, less lively, than it used to be! We don’t have 1200 Post Threads about Zionism, Israel, about mixed dancing, about mixed seating, about everything controversial… now it’s all threads which last a week about internet, they gather 20 posts before DECAFFINATING itself… what’s going on?

Not complaining, guys, but get cracking! keep on posting!!

A boy in my Yeshiva once took away a box of cigarretes from a good friend as a joke, and the boy wanted it back. The boy went to the Mashgiach to ask him if he can give it back or is it assur – the Mashgiach cleverly said ‘I don’t know if it is Assur, so give it to me and tell him if he wants them he should come and pick them up’. The boy didn’t go.

The same Mashgiach announced last zman that he is taking all the smokers on an outing – to the UCH Cancer Ward for an afternoon. A few boys stopped just hearing that announcement.

I asked him what difference it makes to anybody who the Messiah is? I believe in G-d and that the Messiah will come, and why will i go to Hell if I don’t believe he is the one?

The guy answered me that he will atone for my sins if i believe in him. He tried to show me a ???? in ????? and ?????, which I explained to him what it really means.

Then i asked him for a source that a human’s death can atone for MY sins? He showed me ‘For the blood shall atone for you and for your sins…’ – I told him that is about ??????.

He said ‘The Messiah took the place of your lamb!’.

I replied: ‘We all know Mary had a little Lamb, but that’s taking it a little too far!!!’

We don’t wear techeiles because we don’t know the exact animal. Some say it’s from a fish.

shlishi: I didn’t mean to say that it has no mekor – the earliest mekor as far as i can remember is R’ Ahron from Belz. In the Hagodos it says to say ‘BORUCH HABA’ when you open the door. A good YEKKE like me doesn’t say such things (Seriously, it is not our minhag to say it.)

RabbiRAbin – R’ Chaim KAnievsky wrote a sefer about the things which causes one to forget his torah, which are bought all over in Halocho. It probably comes in there.

There is no question eliyahu hanavi comes to the Seder (that was never up for discussion) —:> Where is your mekor???

Commonsense – although the Gemoro clearly says isho zonah means something other than food-distributer. I heard from one of my Rebbes to reconcile the two translations: that in the olden days, a zonah would have an inn, using it to cover up for any alternative definitions.

I instigated the thread, and i still hold that smoking is both crazy and assur. But still – im gonna have to side with those who say that a Yid’s body is different to a Goy’s – although unless there is proof of that, there is no heter. The Chazon Ish would show doctors how to do operations, and when a doctor came to him about two people with the same problem, the Chazon Ish suggested two different operations. The docrtor asked him why and he answered that one is a Jew one isn’t. Different bodies.

Nonetheless, the doctors have not differentiated yet between Jews and Non-Jews, and the heter of Shomer PEsoim Hashem definitelly not apply.

Shlishi – “These are true things.”

    Is that so?

The Head of Shechita in Cape Town has a letter from R’ Elyashiv saying that you may shecht giraffe, and he has done so over Pesach a few years ago.

“When we open the door on seder night we are opening it up for Eliyahu hanavi”

Although there are sources that Eliyahu Hanavi comes to every Seder (sources only within the last few hundred years, not earlier), he certainly does not drink from the Kos shel Eliyahu Hanavi, and we open the door to symbolize ‘Leil Shimurim’ and ‘Cherus’ of not barricading yuorselves away in fear of Goyim. Nothing to do with Eliyahu Hanavi.

“You are not allowed to touch muktzah items on shabbos.”

The issur muktzah is to move, not to touch.

“If a woman drinks from the wine of havdalah she will grow a beard.”

I’m not going to bother – find a source for that or a story that happened to somebody you know. Complete trash.#

“You are not permitted to say lashon harah about yourself.”

There is a big controversy about this – the story mentioned above clearly indicates that it is wrong. But as they say – i am Mochel me, so why not (:-), not seriously. If it is assur, being mochel yourself won’t help)

“If you walk over someone they will cease growing unless you walk back over them”

i cannot say this is untrue, because i don’t know. But for you to say ‘They are true’, Mr Shlishi, can you find me a source for that?

David was once walking in the street in France when he saw a German Shepherd jumping up and knocking over a six year old girl. He ran over, and with his bare hands pulled off the violent dog, killing it in the process. The reporters ran over to him, wanting his name.

“It will be all over the newspapers tomorrow: PARISIAN SAVES GIRLS LIFE FROM VICIOUS DOG!!!”

“I’m not from Paris,” Said David.

“Don’t worry – we’ll write FRENCHMAN SAVES GIRLS LIFE FROM VICIOUS DOG!!!”

    “I’m not French,” Said David.

“We’ll replace that with EUROPEAN SAVES GIRLS LIFE FROM VICIOUS DOG!!!”

    “I’m Israeli,” Said David.

How can IQ tests tell you anything? The biggest genius in the world can be living in Africa in the jungles, cannot speak or read, yet is a major philosopher and thinker. An IQ test will baffle him, although he could kick in Einstein!!!

Most IQ tests are fakes. I got one where they ask you thirty questions like 24 H in a D, where you have to say 24 Hours in a Day. Officially, whoever scores 24+ is a genius. I am not a ‘genius’ yet i got 29 of them. It is general knowledge – a friend of mine is a genius when it comes to Maths, yet he looked at this and didn’t get 7 W of the W. That doesn’t show anything about your intellect!

There is a famous story about the Shidduch Crisis in the early 1700’s. There was shtetl with loads of girls and no guys. One day, the town watchman announced there was a bachur arriving in a horse and carriage from a faraway town. All the women ran out to bag him for their daughters. There was a din torah between two of them as to who had got him first?

The dayan stroked his beard, trying to think of a similar story in Shas that he could compare it to. Then he hit on the perfect idea.

“Bring a knife and cut him into 2!!!” There were two shouts. One woman was happy, smiling and ready to start the cutting. The other was horrified, shaking her head – ready to give up the Guy.

“You said we should cut him up,” Said the Rabbi, pointing at the happy woman. “You must be the real Shvigger!!!”

There is a famous question: When Yosef HaTzaddik had his dream, his brothers and parents bowed to him. Why didn’t his sister Dina bow?

When Yosef came to Mitzrayim, he married Osnas. Osnas was, according to many opinions, Dina’s daughter from Shechem. It comes out that Dina was Yosef’s mother in law.

Never in his WILDEST DREAMS did Yosef believe that his mother-in-law would bow to him!

working harder: “HOWEVER, although smoking may not scientifically reduce stress, mentally it does.”

    – Only for somebody who is already addicted. Somebody stressed out will not feel a stress relief from his first cigarette. You answered yourself “Whenever a smoker is stressed out, they go outside for a smoke and the cig removes them from their surroundings.” A smoker. Not a normal person.

I also apologize – my arguments are nothing to do with muttar or assur, but in common sense. I tried to change the title, but i cannot figure out how to. Mods – if you can change the title to “Smoking: Why would anybody do it?”

I also want to make clear – the question is not for reasons why people do it, (e.g. peer pressure…) but rather logical reason.

Every single Aveirah in the world can be pinned on some sort of medical problem – for example a theif suffers from “kleptomania”… i don’t need to go into details. I’m sure within the next few years they will come up with an excuse why it is okay to murder.

And to answer your question, Wolf – No, it is not to have an attempted murderer in a shul – he should be put in a cheirem, to say the least – if possible locked up in a prison or hospital somewhere. Or go to therapy (there is therapy available for every type of aveira as well)

He asked R’ Elyashiv if he could smoke before the operation and it will make the operation go better. R’ Elyashiv replied surprisingly by not saying that it is Ossur all year round, but still said it is ossur on shabbos, stating there is no such thing as an addiction (See Parshas Behaloscho)

the best one was when one day on the radio there was a warning that some armed fugitives were loose in the area. The camp decided to use this to break out color-war. That night, a madrich came running into the building, pale and shaken – saying that four masked men had entered the campus. The campers were all sent to their rooms, with a madrich. The head counselor ‘called the police’ before sending everybody to their rooms with clear instructions of what to do if the men confronted them. The campers were all petrified. Some were saying tehillim. A loud noise was coming from one area in the garden, with a lot of banging.

A group of campers had found out accidentally that color war outbreak was that night, and figured it out. They took water pistols which looked very real, put on masks and slipped out of the building. Then they came hollering up the path, and banged on the door. Suddenly the head counselor got all scared because there were no men – the radio report was true but the camp had just sent one madrich to make some noise outside. All the staff got a shock when four campers waving guns bashed on the door!!! They were calling the police when the guys screamed ‘COLOR WAR’ and everybody had a laugh, including the counselors!!

I think it is less than a car, which you are moving and maybe even causing the usage of more petrol. And the car, you are driving it with intention.

    1) Except for a motion run camera, every camera records everything that is in front of it. Every detail is printed as a different pixel – a PERSON is nothing more than a wall.

    2) Even if it is considered Kesivah, you are not doing it – at most it is a garmi (direct consequence of your action), and according to the rishonim who say it has to be Beyad (the masser of issur/forbidden action must be done with your actions), here the computer is doing the action, so it a gromo (indirect consequence).

    3) It is Lo Nischaven, maybe even Misasek (unintentional), and if you are just walking past, it is Psik Reisha dLo Nicha Leih (a consequence that you don’t want/need).

    4) Even a camera run by motion sensor which only records when there is a movement, it is the same as a light-on-sensor outside houses, and the psak from R’ Shmuel Halevi Vosner Shlit”a is that there is no problem to walk past, providing you don’t want the light specifically.

    5) It is practically impossible to walk down a main street without being photographed – apparently a walk from Golders Green Station to the North Circular (LONDON) – (twenty minute walk) – you get photographed 300 times. Every shop has one or more security camera, some houses have and the banks have multiple cameras. How do you walk on Shabbos if you dont go in front of cameras?

A prominent Rav in London does not let his kids go to Gateshead Yeshiva because the cameras are on over Shabbos.

I fail to understand – there is a psak from the gedolim that walking past a light which operates on a sensor is okay, as long as you don’t need the light. So why is a camera worse – if anything, the light you are TURNING ON, whereas the camera will be recording whether you are there or not? What issur is there to be photographed on Shabbos?

Doesn’t it say that the Yetzer Hora will be abolished when Moshiach comes? Internet can therefore stay without a need for anything.

And i don’t actually understand the Rambam – doesn’t the Midrash say that pig is called Chazir because ‘Sheosid Lehachziro’ – it is destined to be returned? There are dozens of midrashim that tell of the time when Moshiach comes, and none of them sound like our world! Like the Goyim will be serving us, Snakes will get feet back and be our business managers, that Lions and lambs will live together in peace and harmony… no lack of prophecies!

Besides for that, there are many Rishonim who argue with the Rambam.

A common argument for Yiddish. What i fail to understand is what makes ‘Yiddish’ into a Jewish language – Loshon HaKodes/Ivrit Tenachi is a Jewish Language. Yiddish is a collection of German, English, Loshon HaKodesh and a dozen other languages put together. Why is it Jewish?

Harry Potter and Percy Jackson are the two best series ever written. Both science fiction, not jewish, but UNBELIEVABLE!

According to the fruxation reactor on my Presogrationslism Detector, the range of pliothorate to the ratio of manithin has yet to be balanced. In fact, it could be in severe danger of recabrlicrating!

(I think this is the point of the thread, no?)
