Actually, it IS a popular song, although strictly musically speaking, it’s not very ear – friendly to me. I believe it’s in most Chanukah songbooks and has been recorded by various artists. I like your lyrics.
BTW, we all know about the song ‘ szoll a kakas ‘ , which the Kaliver Rebbe “stole” from a Hungarian peasant and transformed some other tunes into holy songs. Who knows what other words the peasant used in the original.
Plenty of tunes these days being hijacked by frum singers from the secular music world and attached to psukim, and the oylam dancing away at weddings… But that’s another story.

Haimy & chabadshlucha, both make good points.
I’ve been somewhat involved in public lighting ceremonies some years ago, and it was a delight to see many secular or unaffiliated Jews enjoying it ( and latkes, music etc.) and how much pride they exhibited, they and their children, even just for the hour.
We’re between a rock and a hard place.

YWN is news website & get ad revenue based on views, so a catchy headline is a way of attracting clicks. It’s called business strategy. Avi K, I think it depends on which moderator is on that moment, or maybe YW can explain how it works.

    RebYidd,
    Not 1 precious memory ?
A precious memory is like a duck…. if it quacks, walks, feels like it, it’s precious. It’s very easy to know.
Bad memories?? I think WE will pay to wipe them out.

My little neighbor Moishele just reminded me that the Pesah Seder is replete with praise to Hashem for how he punished and drowned the Egyptians… What’s that Moishee. ?
Oh yes, and how thrill on Purim about the hanging of Haman and how Yidden killed the anti-Semites…
Here Moishele, here’s some Chanukah gelt…

It’s only downplayed somewhat because the mission of the battle was to increase spirituality and clean service in the Bet Hamikdash. The battle wasn’t an end in itself. That said, the Bimei Matityahu which follows Al Hanissim in the Amidah, is generous in praising the miracles of the battle.’

“…….Ha-Shem got upset at us for being too happy when Ha-Shem drowned the Egyptians, ….”

FALSE. HE was upset that the MALACHIM were preparing praise, not us. The Az Yashir is full of praise and happiness over the Yam Suf miracles. Every cheder boy knows this, inside out.

“…….Most of the “Greeks” were OTD Yidden ….”
Really? Where did you get that from?

“……We won a battle but lost the war….”
So what? Chanukah was established BEFORE the Roman invasion.

You ain’t makin’ no new wedding…. and you ain’t forgetting anything.. How long you married??
Your current wife be putting her hands on that million befire you can chant a harei att with a new one…
Trying to slip that mil in your pocket past her, is like trying to slip a sunrise past a rooster…

    laskern,
I think coffee addict’s kidding with “memory ”
You make an excellent point. Precious memories are gifts from Hashem to last a lifetime even one ch”v loses material things. They enrich a life and I regurgitate them in my mind all the time , and they make me happy. No one has a guarantee for a tomorrow when new memories can be made. Even if yes, new memories do not replace the old , and are not meant to.
There are precious moments in a life, even if they be for a couple of seconds, but stay in the mind forever.
No, keep the millon, I savor my jewels, those precious priceless memories.

Reminds me of when in the yeshiva lunchroom I put some mashed potatoes in between bread slices.
The rebbe on lunchroom duty that day saw me eating it, walked over to me and quoted the gemarah ” Haneh tipshoi d’Bavli d’uchleh nahama B’nahama .”
To this day, I don’t know what I did wrong.

I suspect Foxman said that as a dig against Trump. As ex- CEO of ADL, he recently blamed Trump for increase in anti-Semitism, even as his former employer agency is busy manufacturing fake anti-Semitic data to also bash Trump.
He pulls out his “Holocaust survivor” card when it suits him.
However, he was a pretty decent fellow compared to his successor who’s turning the ADL into a progressive org., which… oh, by the way, is also Jewish.
ADL, HIAS, AMER. JEWISH CONGRESS, under the now meshuga Lauder are a shame & a sham as far as sddressing Jewish concerns are concerned.

Foxman was head of ADL, not ZOA…
ADL now , under J. Greenblatt is a left wing anti,-Jewish values, even sometimes anti – Israel org.
ZOA is the only proud Jewish/Zionist org. under the great Mort Klein.

    Winnie,
My parents told us that they never heard of, or used the word latkes till they arrived here, at least that’s my recollection.. My mom, also of Czech-Hung. used chremzlach for all types, and dad called the cooked ones kayzlach, which mom never heard of.
I guess it depended from which area they lived in.

In the 2 shuls ( 1 small, 1 midsize) that I daven , there are 11 singles over 22 yrs. of age , counting brothers & sisters. On my block, I counted 7 ( they go to different shuls, so I’m not counting them twice).
Between 5-8 more that are in the neighborhood whom I know casually. There’s no shidduch crisis?
And this is only a 5-10 lock radius.. Yeshivish, not to yeshivish but black hats, even some chassidic, some no hats.
    IOW, a mix.
Some parents know others in other neighborhoods who are also single and talk about the problem.. I’ve never encountered this situation before, and it must be going on everyplace except maybe in all chassidic neighborhoods.
    There’s a shidduch crisis.

I al so have Ketavim Nivcharim, by Rav Yitzchok Nissenbaum, HY”D, a Holocaust victim, and once secretary to Rav MohilivER. It’s out of print. In it, R’ Nissenbaum relates his experiences in the Mizrachi movement as a prominent rav and organizer. He & R’ Reinis knew each other.
This sefer was edited by one, Eliyahu Moshe Ganchovski, out of. Jerusalem years ago. Published by Levin- Epshtein Bros.

    Freddyfish,
    At Hebrewbooks.org.
You’ll have to navigate the site and I’m not sure if they spell his name Reinis , Reines or Reinus,.
In addition to Shaar Aleph which deals exclusively with his thought & experiences in the Zionist movement, there are also the other chalokim of the Shnei Hamoros.
Also, his other works, including shaeiles & tshuvas … a whole slew of them which you can print out in total.
It also has his sefer, now out of print, Ohr Chodosh Al Tziyon, which I was able to purchase on line, which also contains arguments pro-Zionist.
    Good luck.

    Re: Rav Teichtal, HY”D

Rav Reinis Z”Tz”L, also talks about it in Shnei Hamoros,Shaar Aleph, an entire discussion about the Zionist movement .
My son discovered it online, sent it to me, and one of the
telling things about it, is that so many rabbonim supported the movement, and how they were essentially bullied and shut down. I don’t believe this is in book form.

    Mariana,
I’m not much into ketchup dipping and never paid much attention to it, so I was taken aback when a non-Jewish colleague told me years ago that it was a Jewish thing.
Lo & behold, she was right. I started noticing my kids and other guests requesting ketchup , and watched as they used it on EVERYTHING… My wife was like : Don’t you even know what goes on in our house ?? … That started a ketchup fight… I won, ’cause I squirted a no-brand brand at her, and she used Heinz… you know, slowest ketchup in the West.

Chachmei Umos Haolam is not an absolute blanket.
The onky thing that means, in our case of science for example , is an admission that Science is a legitimate concept and has in it Teva, a creation of Hashem.
However, there’s a vast difference between Science & scientists . The latter could be fraught with error or fraud.
Take coffee , eggs , alcohol, chocolate as examples.. During the last decade or so,contradictory scientific studies negated each other’s findings.
We’re being hit with C hachmei Umos Haolam over the head to believe scientists without question. That’s not what what it means.

That one can’t even listen to a sports station on radio without being blindsided by filthy language, ad hominum attacks on values….That Dems support this obscenity… That schools and academia have become cesspools of immoralty, censorship, revision of American history… That Dems/ media are offending religious people, whom Yidlibs are frightened if, every day.. That Dems want to legislate our very lives…
That TDS folks are insanely obsessed with Trump’s past but pushing for same sex marriage and suing bakers to bake them pies against their beliefs… That the Dems are the party of Big Brother, that scary insane society to which we’re drifting..

    Neville is on to something,
In order to stamp out golus-ee Ashkenazi soups with matzoh balls, the old Zionist regime decided to go Arabic- goy cuisine.
Ikah D’amrah, that Golda Meir in a clandestine mission ordered by Ben Gurion and dressed as a male chalutznik, sneaked a meeting with the then Turkish Pasha, el-Chaptzem, and collaborated to import schwarmah as a way to destroy Ashkenazic minhagim, then move in on Sefardim by pushing pizza joints.
