Muslim Subway Hero Gets Lots Of Chanukah Presents

brafman.jpgIt’s turning into a very happy Chanukah for the Muslim man who is credited with saving a Brooklyn college student from a gang of alleged anti-Semitic thugs on the subway – in what is being investigated as a bias crime – as reported HERE on YW.

According to the NY Post, Hassan Askari, 20, was handed a check for $5,000 by Benjamin Brafman, who was touched by Askari’s subway heroics.

Askari was also honored last night at a benefit dinner at the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding in Midtown, and he and his family were offered free Nets tickets for any game they’d like to attend.

Ten men and women were arrested in the incident, including Joseph Jirovec and Zachary Rogalski.

They have been charged separately with hate crimes in the past against blacks.

Both, who deny the charges, are white and claim Jewish ancestry.

  1. There is more to this story. TV news showed different views. It was on Friday night,Shabbos,. The Jews, some said, were drunk and harrassed and teased the people in the train . I don’t know what the truth is. The Moslem is not Arab;he is Indian, and a normal, decent person. This story seems to have lots of branches,or legs. What really,is the true story?

  2. what diffrence does his backround or religion make!!!

he fought these goons off when he could of stayed out of it and just walk away.

    g-d bless him

  3. The muslim was from Bangaladesh which is not arabic Muslims. Muslims from Bangaladesh are generally very nice and western oriented people.

  4. well illini07 there are a few possibilities either he didnt realize they were jewish, OR maybe he saw that 2 of the attackers were jewish and wanted to get them in trouble, OR it was all a set up and planned so that he should get money and honor OR (and probably the most likely) maybe he was really a jew dressed like an arab. there are alot of such types of people (we have even seen arabs dressed as jews meeting with the iranian president-life’s crazy, huh? nobody is happy where they are in life)

  5. #2 AOL had the story in the morning saying that they davka did not provoke them, so where are you getting your “inside scoop” from?

  6. #9: The photograph is of Benjamin Brafman, the well-know attorney who gifted our young hero with $5000. Now that’s hakaros hatov! (Why the young muslim man is not pictured as well is beyond me).

  7. ehrlichnotfrum,

I personally have met lots of goyim who have no hatred at all for Yidden.
In fact, when I lived in Alabama, they all made me feel respected, safe, and among friends. There were plenty of them with whom I interacted, and became friendly. They were all church members, of various churches. In fact, one, a church pastor, drove me on two 120 mile round trips, to be able to daven with a minyan when I had yahrtzeit, and my car was not operational.

In fact, I felt less antisemitism from the Goyim in The South, then I felt from the Goyim in Bensonhurst, or from non-observant Jews.

I learned to like them and respect them. I learned to lose the prejudice and bigotry that I had brought with me from NY.

    Maybe they have Yiddishe neshamas?

They say that there were many thousands of Yidden in The South before the Civil War, and they assimilated after the war due to imported antisemitism from the carpetbaggers.

So, maybe the ones I met were all people with Yiddishe neshamas…. Or, .. who knows… I don’t know, all I know is that they did not hate Jews at all. In fact, the vast majority of C****tians in The South, would rather their children marry a Jew than a Catholic, which they consider avoda zara! And, they really do not have a problem with marrying Jews. Of course, WE have a problem with it… (smile) … but there ARE many beautiful people among the Gentiles.

And, this hero, fully deserves all the Kudos and recognition he is getting.

And, yes, I know a few men from Bangaladesh, one is a Mathematics professor in a Graduate School, and all that I have met are good people.

I do not believe it is the Moslem faith that makes people hate the Jews, I believe it is their leaders who spread the hatred. and, the leaders in Bangaladesh may not be teaching this.

And, also, Thank you to Mr. Brafman for giving this hero a hero’s reward.

But, most importantly, Thank you, our Creator, who protects us, and saves us.
