New York City’s subway system was the scene of two separate violent attacks Saturday night, leaving two men hospitalized and police searching for suspects.
In Midtown, a 44-year-old man was shoved from behind onto the tracks of the 1 train at the 50th Street and 7th Avenue station around 7:50 p.m., according to the NYPD. The attack was unprovoked, and the assailant was a stranger to the victim, police said.
The man suffered injuries to his face and leg but managed to climb back onto the platform before a train arrived. Photos from the scene show him bleeding from the knee and with an abrasion on his forehead as FDNY medics wheeled him out of the station. Fellow riders rushed to help, and the victim even managed a smile as he was lifted into an ambulance. He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
Just over an hour later, another 44-year-old subway rider was stabbed in the neck during a confrontation at the 2nd Avenue F-train station in the East Village. Police said a verbal argument on the northbound platform turned physical shortly before 9:15 p.m. The attacker pulled out a knife, stabbing the victim once in the neck and once in the right armpit before fleeing.
The wounded man escaped to the street level at 1st Avenue and 1st Street, where he received medical aid before being taken to Bellevue Hospital. He was alert and conscious and is expected to survive, according to the NYPD.
No arrests have been made in either case, and police investigations are ongoing.
