Report: Police Are Not Taking Beit Shemesh Burglaries Seriously

According to a HaKol HaYehudi report, there is an alarming increase in the number of home burglaries in Beit Shemesh, adding just this Sunday, 23 Nissan 5772, there were tens of break-ins resulting in the theft of a significant quantity of property.

“When we awakened in the morning my husband saw the upstairs window was open. It was suspicious” explains Naomi Pearl, one of the Beit Shemesh victims interviewed by HaKol HaYehudi. “In our yard, we saw a ladder perched on the roof of a storage shed, and from there, it was easy to access the window. We understood how they did it”.

The Pearls lost a laptop, cellular telephone, wallets, cash and other assorted items. They explain the arrival of police was most untimely, and when they questioned the tardiness of the officers they were told “there were many burglaries last night so it took us time to get here”. They add that police told them the burglars were most likely Arabs, and it appears the break-in occurred between 02:00-05:00.

The report adds that police have however to halt the investigation into the burglaries, not citing a reason for the decision.

On Tuesday, 25 Nissan 5772, the Pearls phones police to inquire, wishing to learn if there is any progress in the investigation. They were told “the case is closed due to a lack of leads”. They are admittedly confused and less than pleased to put it mildly, seeking to understand how police make such a determination a day after the break in, especially when they admit there were “many such burglaries”.

The Pearls turned to a commander, but to no avail. Now they are questioning the performance of police in the city, wondering who is protecting them when they go to sleep at night. They add that there are too many Arab workers wondering around the city and their eyes are too fixed on the Jewish women.

“Every morning I see many Arabs waiting at Kikar Rasido, a central location in the city. The Arabs, who appear to be illegals, are waiting to be picked up for their day labor jobs. They sit and look around at the passers-by and I am scared that it is only a matter of time until a tragedy occurs. You must come and see what I am talking about,” Mrs. Pearl explains.

“The heavy traffic in the area results in cars moving at a snail’s pace and one can easily see who they are staring it. I see them at 7:00am, dozens of them standing there for hours, waiting for a contractor to come and scoop them up for a day’s work. It is a miracle for each day that passes without something happening”.

  1. I am one of the victims of these Beit Shemesh burglaries so I would like to share some information for those who are thinking of making aliyah to RBS or surrounding areas. Jerusalem has their own share of burglaries that I experienced before moving to RBS, so that is not the answer.

There are arabs walking freely across the whole Ramat Beit Shemesh A&B. I was personally told by an arab that they know that this place is free for them to roam. They said that they know they can do whatever they want and the police wont do anything to punish them as long as they don’t kill anyone.

Two weeks before my house was ransacked, my neighbor was robbed and several others on my block. I had some of my things hidden, but how much can you hide already. I have bars on my windows and they just popped them off within minutes. We left the house for a short time and they took all the silver, loose change, laptop, electronics, and linen to store their loot.

I have been in touch with many people who were robbed and they lost everything.Cars are being stolen left and right. A woman just made aliyah and they took tens of thousands of dollars and all her new perfumes, silver, and all her sister’s, who arrived from aliyah as well, belongings as well. They took another woman’s clothing because there were jewelry pins on them and they had no time to remove them.

Another family was robbed three times already. At the third time they had nothing to take. We think it is just robberies, but I know it is not. These stories are not told and they are constantly hushed.

A woman in Telz stone was “violated” and robbed by an arab dressed as a collector, before Pesach. They aren’t reporting these stories and the police are not doing very much to resolve the issues.

I have personally met with the undercover cops here who say that their hands are tied. The corruption goes way up to the courts. It seems like there is a lot of “paying off” that is going on. From what they take, there is enought money to go around.

Before my house was the unlucky contestant, arabs were caught with the loot from someone’s house and taken to court. The judge threw the case out of court for descrimination. The fact that they looked through their bags because they looked suspicious, set them free.

This is what is going on. My sister was in the house hiding behind a door when arabs walked in to rob the place. A family nearby had chilren hiding under their beds at night, terrified, when they were robbed as well.

It is awful. No one seems to care enough to take care of it.
