Continuing The Purim Revolution In Brooklyn

We have all seen the annual Purim Hatzolah ads asking parents and Yeshivas to teach the real message of simchas Purim and be responsible.

Four years ago on Purim night a mini-revolution happened that addressed this issue. A group of very special Baalei Battim sponsored bochurim from Yeshiva Torah Temimah to sit and learn for two hours on Purim night. Each bochur received a $250 check to a tzedokah of his choice. The bais hamedrash boomed with kol torah, and this certainly was the ultimate in “kimu vkiblu” of the simchas hatorah.

For Habochur Hanechmod Yeshaya Dov Eckstein A”H it would be his last Purim. That year he came home with such simcha – he had learnt with such ‘geshmak’ on Purim night, and through this unique learning program his group had collected over $3,500.

For the last three years l’ilui nishmoso the familycontinued this beautiful program. It was an amazing success. There were over 200 bochurim who were committed to learn TWO hours on Purim by night in the bais hamedrash. Success breeds success, and Roshei Yeshivos have called to emulate this program in their yeshivas.

Many more Bochurim have been calling again to continue this program this year. We must not say ‘No’…

PLEASE help to support this beautiful program and sponsor a bochur learning Purim night,by clicking HERE.

With your kind donation you will be creating DOUBLE zechus. The money will to Tzedokah and a bochur will learn in your zechus TWO hours on Purim by night.

  1. Its a wonderful program but its also sad we have to “bribe” bochurim or even “reward” them for not taking “adsheloyahda” to excess and getting drunk and risking their lives and those of others…

  2. To #1
You missed the point. By the boys sitting & learning, they can raise the money for their “Tzadaka” with out leaving the Bais Medrash. The money “doesn’t” go to their own pocket.

  3. To #1. If more Baal Habattim would give to these programs -maybe we could eliminate the need for Bachurim to collect on Purim nite. The collecting brings tremendous peer pressure to Bachurim to drink and all the dangers that come with this drinking. I do think that there should be a Kol Koray from the Gedolim that No Baal Habuss should give a dime to any group collecting that anyone in the group is high or drunk.

  4. Purim always remained my least favorite holiday because the daily ruitine is lost. Of course the day is how you make of it, but in yeshiva I sorely missed having shiur, a chavrusa, night seder, etc. For one who does not drink, the day becomes long. For one who ends up missing mincha or can’t daven wtih proper Kavana should just lay off the drinks. It’s surely more important to have a day filled with Torah, Tefillah, and chesed- rather than the opposite. This program entititles and priviledges bachurim to learn for the higher purpose, as opposed to being on the streets.

  5. “The collecting brings tremendous peer pressure to Bachurim to drink and all the dangers that come with this drinking.”

No. it is the advertisements from the various mosdos offering limos and other perks to the bachurim who collect for them.

  6. To 6 -Most aren’t and this would make a big impact on how much money the groups will get. The ones without drunks will make much more. This would basically solve the prob.

  7. To #8 – Whatever the perks are – this doesn’t make any pressure to drink. As far as I know, the Mosdos don’t provide any booze. So all the pressure to drink comes from the peers!

  8. To number 10.

Technically you are correct. However, the reality is, create a party atmosphere, they will have a party. They need a limo? $150 costumes?

Want to ensure nobody drinks to the point they will barf, make them responsible for the cleanup of the rented limo.

  9. I’m not a fan of this program. Learning is important all the time but yet we stop learning throughout the year to do certain mitzvos. Regarding Megilla (& I’ll venture to add the mitzvos hayom that are included in the megilla) it specifically says “mevatlin talmud torah”. Collecting enables people to give tzedaka which is a mitzvas hayom on purim. Though many people don’t like the drinking that goes on-a good arguement can be made that even if its not a mitzva its at least an extremely choshuv minhag. Celebrate purim properly then learn all day shushan purim when there is no yeshiva!!!

  10. “gadolhadora”is obviously a lib as all his posts show. do u “ever” open a sefer. or do u just offer wonderful opinions?
