For residents of many yishuvim throughout Yehuda and Shomron, the last weeks have been difficult and in some areas, treacherous as there has been a sharp increase in the number of attacks involving firebombs, bombs and rocks. According to security officials, in most cases the attackers are Arab youths acting on their own, explaining the escalation does not represent an organized effort, but the actions of individuals.
The IDF has come under growing criticism from many motorists, who are being attacked all too often while driving around Yehuda and Shomron. They accuse the IDF of turning a blind eye, explaining the attacks appears to be increasing in frequency by the day yet nothing is being done. Most of the attacks that do not result in serious injuries are not publicized in the media, despite the fact there is often property damage to vehicles.
B’chasdei Hashem there is now a sign of hope as IDF officials on Tuesday, 27 announced the arrests of Arab youths, minors, who are linked to rock-throwing attacks. One of the suspects in custody is a resident of Jalazoun, which is near Beit El.
Authorities report that during questioning he admitted to involvement in “many” firebomb and rock-throwing attacks, and even a number of attacks involving explosive devices. The 16.5-year-old suspect admitted to hurling explosive devices into Beit El.
Also in custody is a 15-year-old resident of Eiva, who has taken part in firebomb and rock-throwing attacks.
