To increase the existing electricity supply that does not meet the demand for electricity.

The electricity grid of the Machane Yehuda was upgraded a few years ago, but in recent years the market has developed and its activity has grown due to changes in its character. As a result, electricity consumption is increasing and the existing electricity grid is overloaded, causing fuse burn due to high load and power failures.

Moshe Cohen, director of the Jerusalem District of the Israel Electric Corporation, said: “For a while IEC has been examining several solutions for setting up another transformation station, but so far has not received the cooperation of various entrepreneurs. To respond to any malfunction or break and in the last two weeks there is a dialogue that follows a solution, with the help of the Chairman of the Market Traders Committee – Mr. Peretz, who worked to maintain communications between shuk and city officials and the utility company.”

The transformer replacement provides an immediate solution to the existing loads until a permanent, substantial solution can be implemented that will meet the new needs and strengthen the electricity infrastructure in the market.

The improved supply of electricity is part of renovations taking place, which includes replacing the badly-leaking and outdated roof.
