Kiryat Malachi Detectives Recover Tons Of Stolen Meat

Lachish district police report police operations near Kiryat Malachi last week thwarted the theft of several tons of meat from a factory and the arrest of six suspects from southern area Bedouin communities. Police investigators estimate that this gang has been involved in a number of other break-ins in area businesses in recent weeks. Their remand was extended by a court on motzei Shabbos.

“This is a professional and determined activity, in which various police forces took part, aimed at restoring the public’s confidence and preventing the economic damage caused to those factory owners and business owners,” the police said.

During the night between Friday and Shabbos, the Central Unit’s detectives, together with Yassam commandos and other special units, surprised a gang of residents of the Negev desert and Tel Sheva when they broke into a meat factory in Be’er Tuvia and stole meat weighing a total of several tons. The detectives and soldiers carried out the arrest of the six suspects in their 30s and 40s with the confiscation of three vehicles they were traveling in, and those who were transferred to the central unit for interrogation.

Police estimate that this gang is involved in several break-ins of businesses and factories in the south, break-ins that caused estimated damage of millions of shekels. On motzei Shabbos, the court granted the police’s request and extended the suspects’ remand in order to continue the investigation until Sunday, 14 Iyar as the investigation continues.
