Bnei Brak City Hall Planning To Move The Entrance To Ramat Elchanan Mikvah, Leading To An Outcry

The outcry in the Ramat Elchanan neighborhood of Bnei Brak is audible these days, the response to the municipality plan to move the entrance to the community mikve, a new venue that is viewed as far more public and therefore, unwanted.

It turns out that rabbonim and askanim learned that during renovations carried out by the municipality in the mikve, the engineers are expected to move the opening towards the garden, which raises a tznius alarm.

The local mikvah is located on the outskirts of the neighborhood, between Ramat Elhanan and Ramat Aharon, adjacent to Avnei Nezer Street, and the playground in Sderot Shimon Soroka.

On the instruction of the community rabbonim, Mara D’asra HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Zilberstein, Dayan Rabbi Yehuda Silman and the HaGaon HaRav Masud Ben Shimon have posted a letter in the shul addressed to Mayor Chanoch Zeibert, signed by community residents too, calling upon him to act immediately to prevent the planned change in the entrance to the mikve.

The letter begins by thanking the mayor for all his activities and actions for the property of the city, a city of “Torah and chassidus”, particularly Ramat Elchanan, particularly at present, when he is concerned with bettering the community mikve.

They then go on to address the planned change in the direction of the entrance, asking Zeibert to intervene in compliance with the request by the rabbonim and residents alike.

  1. This is indeed terrible.

What an awesome job it must be to decide who get’s what title. Who decides that Silman is a “Rabbi” and Ben-Shimon is “HaRav”? And why are Zilberstein and Ben-Shimon considered “HaGaon” and not poor Silman? Zeibert has Smicha, but I guess it was decided to de-Rav him. I would hate to have that job. What a responsibility.
