Dr. Yaron River, who serves as director of the neurology department at Hillel Yaffa Hospital, spoke in a problematic and very serious manner against Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. Dr. River told the doctors and nurses in the ward that if Netanyahu was evacuated to the hospital, he would refuse to treat him.
The government-run hospital is located in Hadera, and Netanyahu’s home is in nearby Caesarea. In the event of a medical emergency, if Netanyahu stays at his home in Caesarea, Hillel Yaffa is the nearest hospital.
This was reported by the Yisrael Hayom newspaper, by journalist Yaron Doron, quoting witnesses who heard Dr River a few days ago in the neurology department he is running.
River said to doctors and nurses in the ward: “We have to get him out, we have to remove him.” When asked who he was talking about, he replied that he was talking about Prime Minister Netanyahu.
“He lives in Caesarea, and if he gets here, I will not take care of him,” he added.
Beyond their severity against the prime minister, River’s words are also contrary to his role as a physician, since according to the doctor’s oath he is obliged to treat any person regardless of his status or origin.
PM Netanyahu commented on his Facebook page and wrote: “The crazy hatred against me is breaking records. Go understand”.
Hillel Yaffa said in response to Yisrael Hayom: “Dr. River is a doctor who is not a politician, and his personal opinions are of no interest in the fact that he is devoted to his patients and will always give medical treatment to anyone. Any other statement is ridiculous and out of context.”
Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman responded, “I strongly condemn the statement made by the doctor from Hillel Yaffa Hospital that he will not care for Netanyahu”.
He added, “I have instructed the professionals in the ministry to examine the disciplinary measures that are required in this case, a statement that has no place in the healthcare system, that he personal views are unimportant and that he must treat every person”.
