Motzei Shabbos News Round-Up From Eretz Yisroel


A number of fires broke out over the course of Shabbos in the Gaza periphery in spite of the newly signed agreement between Hamas and Israel. Firefighters and security forces worked to contain the blazes. Since Sunday, more than 100 fires have been ignited in the region due to incendiary balloons that have been launched by Hamas operatives at Israel.

IDF forces stationed along the border arrested two Palestinians who crossed from Gaza into Israel illegally. The two were armed with knives and were taken for questioning.

Arab riots in Isawiya and the surrounding neighborhoods of east-Jerusalem continued to riot throughout the weekend. Rioters threw firecrackers and stones at Israeli forces. Security forces arrested 19 of rioters in the area.

An 11-year-old girl was seriously injured after she was bitten by a snake in the Druz town of Hurfesh in the Galilee. The girl was treated by Magen David Adom teams before being taken to the hospital.

A 16-year-old boy was moderately injured on Shabbos afternoon after he was struck by a car on Derech Ma’aleh Adumim in Jerusalem.

A motorcyclist was killed on Highway 89 in the Galilee after he was involved in an accident with a car near the town of Sasa.

Six people were reported injured in a fire that broke out in an apartment building on Pinsker Street in Kiryat Ata. Firefighters removed the victims from the building and United Hatzalah volunteers treated the six people for mild smoke inhalation before they were transported to the hospital for further treatment.

A 30-year-old man was murdered on Motzei Shabbos during a violent altercation that took place on Shevet Street in southern Tel Aviv. Police forces at the scene detained five men for questioning. The men were all present at the scene.

Some 80,000 people visited Israel’s national parks over the weekend. Some of the parks that saw the most tourists were Ceasaria, Masada, and Gan Hashlosha. Many visitors also made use of the boating facilities on the Chatzbani river. As the school is ending, the staff at national parks are finishing their preparations for summer vacation and an additional throng of visitors to parks all over the country.
