Noam Shalit on Regev-Goldwasser Deal

Speaking with Israel Radio’s Reshet Bet, Mr. Noam Shalit, Gilad’s father, explained on Monday he is happy that for the families of Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser, that the “nightmare” is about to end with the prisoner exchange set for Wednesday.

Shalit questions the policies of the government, particularly Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who on Sunday announced from France that Israel is going to make yet another ‘good-will offer’ to the PA by releasing additional terrorists. Mr. Shalit questioned why we do not see any good-will from the PA, adding his captors are unwilling to forward anything to Gilad or permit any communications with him by a third party.

Mr. Shalit stated that since Gilad was taken captive, over 1,000 prisoners have been released by Israel, reminding us that those responsible for Gilad’s abduction came from a PA area under PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), not Ismail Haniyah’s Hamas-controlled Gaza. Nevertheless, Abu Mazen has not been involved in Gilad’s release and has not shown any sign exhibiting an interest in assisting to obtain his release.

Noam also expressed his pain for the entire Arad family, whose nightmare also continues with no end in sight.
