Gedolei Eretz Yisroel Set To Arrive In The U.S. On June 15 In Support Of Keren Olam Hatorah

Gedolei Eretz Yisroel have been preparing to embark on a fundraising mission to the United States following Shavuos on behalf of Keren Olam Hatorah, and are now set to arrive on Sunday, June 15.

The trip comes amid drastic reductions in Israeli government financial aid for yeshivos and kollelim, a move that has left countless institutions scrambling to cover basic operational costs.

The first stop on this year’s mission will be in Los Angeles — notably making this the first time the city is included in the tour, which last year began in New York and New Jersey. From Los Angeles, the delegation will travel to Lakewood, with their arrival slated for Tuesday, June 17.

The full list of gedolim who will be participating has not yet been finalized, but Harav Dov Landau shlit”a has expressed a strong desire to be part of the journey and has asked the public to daven for his strength and health to allow him to join.

Last year’s historic maamad in Lakewood, held in the massive Clifton Avenue parking lots near BMG’s Bais Aharon campus, drew tens of thousands who came to witness the kavod haTorah and hear divrei chizuk from the gedolim. It is not yet known whether a similar gathering will take place this year, though discussions are reportedly underway.

Further details about the trip, including the finalized itinerary and which gedolim will be participating, are expected to be released in the coming days.

  1. It is not you who will be sustaining them, similar to The Ark it is them that will really be sustaining you. A chance to be part of something huge. Sustaining the holy Torah and the holy land and countering the evil mission of those who rise against it. Let the modern fakers kick and scream how they don’t deserve money and that they’re not contributing, when the ground opens up they’ll be surprised that its those evil talkers who fall through it first and the donaters who will watch

  2. @rebEmes: “Let the modern fakers kick and scream how they don’t deserve money and that they’re not contributing, when the ground opens up they’ll be surprised that its those evil talkers who fall through.”

You seem to be positively licking your lips with pleasure as you yearn for this to happen to Jews (talmidei chachamim and yorei Shomayim among them) who have a different perspective than you do.

  3. Perspective? People that openly rebel against respected rabbis is not a different perspective. And I think you’re confusing excitement for disgust. Unfortunately I have to read disgusting comments like that here all the time and I know they’re coming.

  4. Mr Shlomo

No yorei shamayim says that a bachur who avoids idf service to maintain the Kedusha of a yid and spends his days and nights in the beis medrash instead, are considered non-contributors to Klal Yisroel and that they do not deserve anything from medinas Yisroel- None

Only ppl who lack yirat shamayim say that. and all yeshiva Bochum are avoiding service for the above stated reason.

  5. They have their purported Shita that “Torah Megina uMatzila” – Torah learning protects from all harm. I question their actual belief in that, since if that is truly the case, their hishtadlus should be increasing the amount of time in the Beis Midrash – not flying to the US to raise money from people who don’t sit and learn.

I hope they open their eyes and see – but I do not, C”V, wish to see them come to harm – either physical or spiritual, and I’m certainly not “licking my lips” in anticipation of their being punished for misleading others. As Beruria eishes Rav Meir explained, the Pasuk says “Yitamu CHATA’IM min ha’aretz” – not Chot’im. We daven for those we see as doing wrong to do Teshuva – not to be punished.

  6. torah magna umattla is a shita? it is a gemara
well known to most beside those from the kochi veotzem yodi camp who choose to ignore it.

  7. @lbj:
    Yes, it’s a gemara.
But there are different opinions as to how to interpret that gemara.
    Vast literature on this.
If you’d like to point me to a comprehensive teshuva or ma’amar that deals with this issue and understands it as you do, please do so.

    @rebEmes:
There are “respected Rabbis” on both sides of this issue.
Unless your definition of “respected Rabbis” is “Rabbis who agree with me.”
If you’d like to point me to a comprehensive teshuva or ma’amar that deals with this issue and understands it as you do, please do so.

  8. @lbj – you are correct that it is a Gemara, and I should have been clearer. As @Shlomo 2 stated, there are many different peshatim in this Gemara – so it would have been more accurate of me to say that they have their purported Shita IN Torah Megina uMatzila – that Torah protects from ALL harm. Better?
