Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger Shlita stated that the key to the prime minister remaining in office for a full term is protecting Yerushalayim.
Perhaps taking advantage of the election atmosphere, the chief rabbi in an address in Yerushalayim stated that a prime minister who will protect Yerushalayim will complete his term. The comment comes as the parties are heavily involved in election campaigning, which for some means pushing their agenda of making “painful concessions on Yerushalayim” towards signing yet another agreement with the PA (Palestinian Authority).
Rabbi Metzger is calling on the next prime minister to declare that Jerusalem will remain the undivided capital of Israel and the Jewish People.
At a Likud campaign function in the Jerusalem Convention Center on Tuesday, a number of MKs called on party leader Binyamin Netanyahu to make such a declaration. The nation continues waiting.
Right-wing parties such as Yisrael Beitenu, Bayit Yehuda and Ichud Leumi point out that Likud raised its hand in support of the expulsion from Gaza and other plans, including handing over Chevron to the PA and as such, no matter what Netanyahu says in his election bid, he cannot be trusted.
