Monday Afternoon News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


The Ohr Yarok organization reports 12 cyclists were killed on the roadways in 2008 and 60 injured. There were 6 fatalities and 43 injuries in 2007.

12:20: A wall of a Meah Shearim talmud torah collapsed on Monday. Baruch Hashem, there were no injuries but officials evacuated the students until engineers can assess the structural integrity of the building.

13:25: A Kassam rocket falls in an open area in the Shar HaNegev region. Baruch Hashem, no injuries are reported.

**There will be a hachnasas sefer torah on Monday night beginning with the completion of the writing of the Torah in the home of Rav Aaron Shapira, the rav of Pardes Katz. The completion of the Torah will last for one hour, in the rav’s Kiryat Herzog home.

**US Mideast envoy George Mitchell expected to arrive in Israel at the end of the week. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expected to arrive next week.
